This is Edie taken this afternoon, you can just about see Lucy's ear. This is her cute look, but believe you me she's a little rascal!!!

For me, the problem with putting this on her card is that it becomes her debt officially and I'm concerned about what would happen if I wasn't around. I've had two close shaves in the last 18months, one only 5 weeks ago-anaphalaxia (?spelling) and I don't want to saddle her with anymore problems. All she's concerned about is getting rid of my debt before she turns 60 in 2 years time so we can sort out retirement money. I just feel like I'm using her if that makes sense. She's so good to me...sorry got to go and have a little cry now..

Okay-sorry. I want to thank you TurnaroundSue, honestly. You've made me think and I've realised that it was me who put the kibosh on this idea without really thinking it through, or rather talking it through. Tomorrow me and OH are going to sit down and have a BIG talk about stuff. So thank you, thank you for talking sense.

they are so gorgeous, i so want one but we'll have to wait for a while, my head knows this but my heart want's one now!

sometimes trying to clear debt is so boring, especially when you want to do other things. but i hate the fact that it is ruling my life and i know i should only have 3 more years so that's not too long to face.

Sorry, didn't mean to upset you! Sorry also to hear about your health problems. Do you have life insurance? If so, and god forbid, then this could be used to repay any debts you have in your/your OH's name. It is great that you have someone who is so supportive, 2 heads are better than one and between the 2 of you and your determination, you will be able to get this debt cracked hopefully before she is 60.

Not sure whether it has been asked before, but can you e-bay/car boot and throw these monies at your debts?

    ps Edie is absolutely gorgeous:D

TurnaroundSue-you haven't upset me, you challenged me to look a bit deeper and it was good. I absolutely thank you for that.

We have finally decided to try and BT some of my debt over as OH really wants this debt gone. We called B'card (hers) this morning to find out some more and they were spectacularly helpful-NOT! But, allegedly, there is a letter in the post which will enable this to happen so fingers crossed.

Half my problem is that I don't feel I deserve to have money. I should be on Spendaholics really as this is something I have inherited from childhood and it affects everything in my life I suppose.

Mum and dad had very little and mum was always ill with rheumatoid arthritis, the same as me. The four of us didn't feel we should bother our parents because they both worked (this is back in the 60s too) so we sort of got on with it. Nothing bad, childhood was pretty good, but lonely, as we were never told that we were loved or cuddled; we all remark on this even now and we are all in our 40s-late 50s!

When I married, ex-hubby spent every last penny on himself, while me and our DDs did the best we could. I worked all the hours I could in a very stressful and dangerous job and he spent all my wages on DVDs and tosh, really . He's still doing that with his second wife! And cheating on her too. Can you feel the anger?!

Sorry about all the psychological blergh, but me and OH have thrashed a few things out today and this sort of stuff comes out :o I didn't realise how much she hated my ex and why-it's sort of sweet actually :D

I'm going to read everyone else's replies now-and watch NCIS!

  • Hi Cyd - have you ever had an counselling? You mention Spendaholics and on there they look at people's past to see if their spending is affected by their past and usually it is.

Sorry to hear about your lonely childhood - you cannot beat a good hug and someone telling you that they love you - especially your parents, but I think that was a sign of the times - especially for men. It seemed something that people just didn't do then, so hopefully you can forgive your mum and dad and enjoy the love and support you get from your partner now. Sorry, I am no psychologist or therapist, and tell me to shut up if I have spoken out of turn. It's just I have used counselling a few times in my life and to be honest it has always put me back on the straight and narrow.

  • lol yep, its the toilet training. I never had a dog before so at first thought it was something I was doing wrong....until i realised its a daxie thing.

I love her really. Lola is her name.

Here is a pic for you guys

She will gladly roll on her back for lots of cuddles and tummy rubs

OMG - I am in love!!!!

My pair are called Henry (the cream one in my avatar pic) and Oliver (the red one). They will be 13 years old this year.

Sorry, Cydney - I didn't mean to butt in on your thread. It was the title that got me! Edie is absolutely adorable!
  • Meerkat2007-your two are gorgeous. Love the glasses! This thread is bringing out all the daxy owners and the doggie lovers, its great.

Naomi, I go gaga over so many things; babies, dogs, cats, birds etc.I'm a very emotional person. I cry at everything. We watched that programme about life, marriage and death in 24hrs last night-all I did was blubber all the way through and secret millionaire, that always gets me.

Lemon Tree-checks to see that daxys are still under blanket :p-'...sometimes trying to clear debt is so boring, especially when you want to do other things. but i hate the fact that it is ruling my life and i know i should only have 3 more years so that's not too long to face...' you have done amazingly, I am in awe seriously. Being at the beginning of the journey I don't think I've realised just what a long slog it will be, although my debt or rather an awareness of money, is now starting to overtake most aspects of my life, which is a new experience. I would always dip into my purse to treat my DD or OH and now I have to stop and think, so that's good. I have to gird my loins and prepare for the long haul now. Thank goodness for MSE :T

Hi TurnaroundSue, you're not speaking out of turn. I'm a great advocate of counselling. My last lot was 7yrs ago and the counsellor was great. It was with her that I began to understand that my parents were of their time and I forgave my mum, in particular, for her mood swings. Poor woman must have been in terrible pain for most of her life. I am waiting for an appointment to see a CPN (community psychiatric nurse) at the moment because of my depression. Hopefully this will help to turn my life around. Oh and funny you mentioned life insurance in a previous post. OH and I have agreed that if this BT happens and I pop me clogs, then some of my LI should pay for the extra debt she has incurred-better to be safe than sorry.

And eBay...I have lots of things to list but I keep putting it off argggh, gotta do it. Funny how I can always find time to play with the dogs :rotfl:

    Sleep well everyone

Why do I love Ikea sooo much??? I need a memory foam pillow from said lovely shop, so i went on to the website to see how much delivery was (the nearest store is in Gateshead which is 1.5hours away). £7.50 was the damage. Lordy, I thought, it would be better if I ordered a few bits really because that sort of saves money, right? before I knew it, my shopping basket showed £150  I came off quick sharpesh but have talked to DD2 and our very nice neighbours and we are getting a big order together to save us all a bit of petrol and delivery money. It should also mean that I wont feel obliged to buy a new sofa just to get a better deal :rotfl:
