Dastardly Dachshunds-another DFW Diary

  • After a rough day yesterday-all my own fault as i did too much-today has a better feel to it.

Had letter through from evil  card confirming that they had received my complaint (PPI reclaiming letter) and that they were looking into it. Will mark it down on calendar,, always good to keep tabs on them. Checked evil  card online and they have finally cancelled PPI installments. It's only taken them a year! Grrrrr.

Had early morning phone call from social services saying they had a referral from the doctor. Two days that took. Halifax could learn a thing or two from them. Unfortunately it was the older persons section of social services. OH nearly burst a blood vessel as she's only 58 :rotfl:What was really funny was that our GP had said that OH lived with a 'housefriend' instead of civil partner. I thought that was so sweet. I've been teasing her all morning about it.

My goodness, social services have just rung again. They sound on the ball.

After days, nay weeks, of three flapping fishes yesterday I won a pound and today 20p :T Think I'd better play some bingo before I get booted off.

Hoping all is going well with the debt busting. Join us on some of the challenges if you want. I find the small things daily thread one of the best.

angelflower we'll take your puppy from you if you want! pleeeezzzzzeeeee?

Cydney thanks for the kind words about my debt busting, i feel now that i should have started a diary but my life is boring and so i just tick along and obsess over my spreadsheets. I still get scared that i'm still looking at another 3 years and that's if i can pay off a loan or two early. At the moment i have my overdraft to get my teeth into i'm not sure what i'll do when all i can do is save to pay lumps sums off my loans, i like to see real movement on the accounts.

Hi Angelflower, oh how cute, we now need to form an orderly queue to stroke the dachshund. What have you called her/him? Our two are 3yrs old soon (birthday 1st April. Nuff said really) and still drive us nuts. It took me nearly a year to toilet train them!!! Willful is not the word and I'm not exactly inexperienced when it comes to dogs, but hey they are adorable and make us laugh every single day with their daft antics, especially Edie.

I will sign up, officially for the challenges I do unofficially like PAD and sealed pot. I have started to post on the small things thread and have found it's great for giving me a nudge. Thanks :D

Hi DJ82, I really empathised with you because that was me at the beginning of January. All geared up and nowhere to go. I started doing some of the challenges, but unofficially, to give me something to concentrate on while I waited for the money to run through my account, and out of it again, lol. I see you're doing £4000 by end 2009, really good luck on that-I said I'll keep a look out for you. Don't worry though, I'm not a stalker ;)

Hey Lemon Tree :hello: When Angelflower isn't looking, we'll sneak up and take the dachshund. Shhh don't tell them!

It's hard work this debt busting thingy. I'm only two months in and finding it difficult to balance the constant pressure to throw every bit of money at the debts, with the need to live some sort of life. Tricky huh. Some of you have been doing this for a while now and I have nothing but admiration for you. Just putting your debt and DFDs in your signatures, though, inspires so many people who lurk on these boards and gives them the courage to face their problems. I know this, as I was one of those people. Oh and everybody has a story to tell. We are all special people with our own rich lives and voices. So big pat on the back for all of us

I shall get back to my snowball now. I'm running some scenarios through it to see if I can get my DFD down some more. So nothing new going on here then :rotfl:

OMG Lola is absolutely GORGEOUS. I have never seen a cream daxy before, how cute.

Yep it's a daxy thing, like sniffing out dead fish on the beach at a thousand paces, defending the garden against marauding blackbirds, eating your knickers, snuggling into bed with you and biting potential burglars ( well, okay, SIL) on the toes; it's definately a daxy thing.

I will try and dig out a pic for you.

  • Hi Cyd (sorry hope you don't mind me shortening your name - am dreadful for that!!).

One thing I would say is give yourself a treat every now and then, otherwise you will find that you will go mad with all the debtbusting and then just explode and go and spend silly money on something that you never really wanted or needed. It doesn' have to be expensive, just a walk in the park and maybe an ice-cream or a coffee at the coffee shop on your way home.

I found that just have a little treat like that kept me on the straight and narrow. Good luck and well done, you are doing great - 4 months off your debt free date already, so keep that in mind as motivation.

    Hi TurnaroundSue

Thank you for the good advice and the encouragement. I think I'm going to budget myself a small amount of money next month to do what I like with. Even if I just get a small bar of chocolate or a bottle of whisky...well okay perhaps not a bottle of whisky as my taste in single malts is not cheap! Fortunately I am in a situation where I can afford the odd treat and still get the debt down, that's one important thing that these boards have taught me: that there are many people who are in a lot worse situations and to be really, really grateful for what I have.

BTW Cyd is cool. Cydney is my cat's name but we always shorten it to Cyd.

OH and me had our first proper disagreement about my debt today. She wanted to BT some of the evil  card debt onto her own card. I said I wouldn't let her do that as it would become her debt and what if anything happened to me. She said it was her debt anyway as we are a couple...anyhow the upshot was I went onto my snowball and ran the APR and possible BT through and it would reduce my DFD by...three months!!! We have now come to the conclusion that it isn't worth her putting some of my debt on her card. I know we would be paying less interest but for us it's so not worth it. Oh well, can't say I haven't tried. There's always the PPI :D

How do you get pictures onto here? I've tried inserting image button but it just asks for the url address...help :o Just realised how to do this duh! Unfortunately pic is huge so will go and resize it!

  • Cyd - if you could reduce your debt by 3 months by putting it in her name, why dont you do this but then still make it your responsibility to pay the repayments? I know officially it would be her debt, but between the two of you, it would still be yours. That would then bring your DFD down by 7 months in total!!!
