Our butcher is more expensive, but I wouldn't use anyone else. he can source all is meat back to the farm, makes his own sausages and burgers, and will cut or de-bone anything for you. Butcher for me every time!

The local Butcher is the best place to get meat from. We always used to get meat from Tesco's because it was quick and convenient. Met my Butcher through my last job as he supplied meat there. I purchased a whole Pig and a whole Lamb of him last year. He gave them to us at cost all butchered into joints and chops.

Have not bought meat from a supermarket since.

Try your local Farmers Market. I buy all my meat from ours, you get to meet (no pun intended) the producers and you can ask questions on how it's reared, what it's been fed on, what breed etc. If you buy in bulk they usually deliver free. My pork and lamb come from 3 miles away and the beef 6miles from where I live. The meat is far superior to that you get in the supermarkets.
  • Butchers everytime. Also Costco meat and chicken is excellent. I agree with other posters, the more you go to your local butchers the less you will want to buy supermarket meat. The difference in taste is icredible.

is the meat from something like farmers market a lot more expensive though than say at tesco. I appreciate what has been said about quality but if its twice the cost I couldnt afford it ?

ooops posted that a bit quick. It probably is a little more expensive than the supermarket, but quality wise it's worth it.

I prefer to buy my meat from a market rather than a supermarket.

We had steak yesterday that was reduced in a supermarket, and I have never eaten anything so bland in ages, tasteless, chewy and rough. Where as from my meat market, my word, you get such a lovely taste from the food and is so much more enjoyable.
Where do you go? I'm in Manchester and have been looking for a decent butcher for a while. All the ones I try either see me coming and charge a real fortune or aren't very good quality. I've been relying on Costco!

Butcher every time :T - the same quality of meat in the supermarket is much more expensive (yes, you can get cheaper meat, but it is nowhere near the quality!).

Personally, I would rather eat a lesser quantity of meat of good quality, than lots of cheap, nasty meat - hence we eat veggie meals several times a week, but when we do eat meat, it is delicious and has real flavour!:D

P.S. Agree with the "get to know your butcher" advice - they will not only do you a good deal once they get to know you, but can cut/fillet meat to your liking and advise on the best cuts available for your money and advise you on the best way to cook them!!:j
