Is your daughter's new computer running the Vista operating system? Which model of Lexmark is it? Have you used the original disk that came with the printer?

I've had similar problems with my Vista laptop as it can't use the original software that came with my printer and needed updated drivers from the HP website.

There are Vista drivers available for your printer here. Select Vista (not Vista 64) from the drop down list.

This FAQ may be helpful if you experience a problem from installing the old drivers from the CD:
"Uninstall Previous Driver" Message Appears During Installation of a Windows Vista DriverID: ENUS27756Explanation
This behavior occurs if a non-Vista driver, such as a Windows XP driver from the printer's original driver CD, is installed in Windows Vista.
    Resolution
      1. Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
      2. Download the cleaning utility for your printer from ftp.lexmark.com/driver/inkjet_drivers/Cleanup/</U>.
      3. Double-click on the cleanup utility and follow the on-screen instructions to run it.
      4. Restart the computer.
      5. Reinstall the Vista driver that is available for the printer on the Lexmark Web site.

      This is very straightforward.

Try downloading the new software first and installing it and then seeing if it works. If you get the error message I've posted then follow the steps in there.

It should work. Now how can I help your daughter with leaving her homework until the last day of half-term :rotfl:

Ooh stop being so nervous and just do it! Vista is very good at protecting you from doing something wrong and believe me, without the Vista drivers the printer won't work!

I'll stay here and send you positive thoughts and await your post saying it's all working perfectly :)
