  • I'm with the hands and knees bridgade, I normally use hot water and washing up liquid (but will now try adding a dash of bleach to it), or sometimes supermarket's own floor cleaner for a change. I find it easier and quicker to use an old rag and elbow grease- I always felt my mop made the floors dirtier (but then I didn't like the idea of leaving it to soak in bleach with small ones around and after awhile it looked abit manky :( ).
  • Jeez you guys are very clean. We have wooden floors throughout except bathrooms and kitchen. They get mopped about once every three months  although marks and stains do get cleaned up regularly just with a damp cloth and we do sweep several times a week (I say we but this is THE ONLY area where DH's tolerence is lower than mine so I make the most of it :)). Use a mop and bucket with a little bit of washing up liquid in it tho gonna try stardrops next time. Kitchen is an old slate floor and a real b*** - think it needs sealed or something but haven't ever managed to get it clean enough to be worth sealing. Gonna try some of the tips off here - it always looks grubby and it gets us down, esp DH. Bathrooms get a lick and a promise fairly often but only get a thorough floor wash when all the floors are done.

I'm not lazy, I just like doing other things better ;)

Could someone recommend a mop that is quick to use and cleans well?

Forget them as soon as you can."
  • I use a Vileda microfibre mop and hot water with a squirt of stardrops and some tea tree oil added.

Speaking of wooden floors, I remember when I was 9, my sister and I thought we would do our parents a favour whilst they were at work and clean their kitchen/dining room/living room floors and then bring it up extra well by dusting them down with pledge after.

They certainly did look gorgeous, the only problem was them falling down almost as soon as they got through the door.

At least my mum did acknowledge our efforts by saying yes the floor did look lovely but leave it to her the next time.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Soda crystals are great for tiled floors - as long as they don't have a seal or varnish as the crystals will remove that. Soap flakes are ideal for wooden floors. They're probably ok for laminate wooden floors too, but don't have a very wet mop - you don't want loads of water soaking down cracks as it may cause the veneer to peel away from the chipboard.
  • erm quick question , is it ok to use soda crystals on a wooden floor ???

i did today , on wooden and tiled , dont ask me why , has left a white layer on both floors , need to re wash them !!
  • Anyone know the best stuff to use for cleaning a travertine marble floor?
We're just about to have this laid in our kitchen (we know we've got to seal it with Lithofin first), but obviously I want to keep it looking its best!

  • Hello everyone....

I am just wondering if any of you lovely people could recommend a floor cleaner for my kitchen floor....

it is driving me mad! It is a black porcelain type large floor tile that is shiny and shows every mark on it ( wish we had never put this floor down now but it was on special at b and q 8 months ago! ).... everything i seem to use smears the floor.... it is driving me mad, i am having to sweep it 3 times a day and mop it at least once a day... it might sound clean but honestly looks awful by the end of the day, like i have not cleaned it in a week and i do it once or twice a day!

any help or hints/advice most appreciated.....

    total debt £29,508

Next ends May 09... one down! Barclaycard ends July 2010... two down! A&L ends Oct 2010... Loan ends Oct 2010.... keep on going and we will b debt free x x
