i have a real slate floor - it came with the 160 yr old house :)
i use soda crystals - there is a thread about them somewhere on here - chuck a few handfulls in some hot water and slosh it all over the floor :) seem to do the trick

    cheers

I use soda crystals too as I have a slabbed stone floor in my old house. They work so well I don't need to spend anything else for more expensive cleaners.

I have a ceramic tile floor, which is a bit of a bother to keep clean as the surface is textured and dirt gathers in the ridges. Usually a handful of soda crystals, squirt of washing up liquid and some white vinegar added to very hot water lifts the dirt but every now & then I just have to give it a good scrub. For this I use a long handled medium/soft bristle broom, so much better than crawling around on your hands and kneesicon7.gif. Its great for getting the grout between the tiles clean. Then I just dry it off with a soft mop. Lovely!

  • I either use hot water and star drops or washing up liquid which does the job. I use a sponge type mop which doesnt squeeze very well and iam left with soaking wet floors which can take hours to dry can anyone suggest a better mop?

I tried all sorts of things on mine and every proper floor cleaner made my slipper stick to the floor.

Now I use about a tablespoon (at a guess) of soda crystals in about half an inch of water in my bowl. I mop the floor, and each time the water on the floor starts looking grubby I give the mop head a quick rinse under the tap (NOT in the bowl 'cos it makes my cleaning water mucky) then dip in my nice clean soda water and carry on.

Normally I use a very old towel, stand on it and shuffle round to dry the floor. it's the only job that towel has,

I finish up with a squeaky clean floor.

    Well, I would, wouldn't I :)

I do the old towel shuffle, too!

    To clean my floors I:

Get a damp rag and scrub up any visible dirty marks (spills, scuffs, whatever) with the aid of a spray bottle of general cleaner (I make mine with water and washing up liquid.)

Then, I use that stuff from Asda that you don't have to rinse. It's in a blue bottle. I sprinkle the floor with that and use a damp sponge mop to pick it up. I frequently rinse the mop in the kitchen sink and keep it wrung out.

Then, I shuffle around with an old towel.

How do you clean your kitchen floor?

I have pale cream tiles. Really it needs washing/sweeping daily or it looks grotty.

Do you have any quick tips?

At the moment I sweep with a broom or the hoover if its out & mop with a traditional mop & bucket.

    Anyone use those JML mops?

Any tips for how I can make it a really quick job, so I could find time to do a daily once over?
