I help fill out IB/DLA/AA forms out at the CAB and i would go with what Healy has said.
As stated in my original post I have always encouraged clients to contact CAB, Welfare Rights, etc. Whilst your statement is indeed true, my role involves linking in with IB advisers and frequently surrounds scenarios of people failing their PCA for the "wrong" reasons. Benefit awareness I received from a CAB trainer also touched on ATOS' involvements and motives behind the appointments. The reason they are now done into the early evening and at weekends is due to the huge backlog and because ATOS are paid per medical conducted not how many pass or fail. Consequently the information gleened from these medicals is sparce to say the least. Therefore anyone who can be spared the medical and the inadequate interview they will receive would be far better to know not to pull punches with how much information they release about their health.
That being said, you are the ones potentially supporting them through to tribunal and naturally want to represent them fairly. It's just a shame they aren't reviewed with equal fairness by the decision makers.0 -
Having gone through the mill - the truth is that this process is all about cost saving.

I think that is spot on and close to the truth...My own conclusions with many people who have rang me...is the doctors often made a perception decicion on trhe person before they even get into the consulting room based on the guidence notes from the power that be
AS per several people on this forum also doctors SOMETIMES dont even take into account or are totally disintrested on what the claiment is saying or what is written on the claim forms.
The doctors also seem to know who is vunerable and will not appeal or go to seek legal advice.
Something new is the 6 months till next review, date which is something i will be keeping my eye on locally to me. This amounts to nothing more than making genuinely sick people people jump through hoops and put them off claiming
One good this is that we have the right of appeal so It is even more important now to have a written doctors letter about your condition in case you have to go down the appeal routeChild of a Fighting Race.0 -
Does anyone know if I can fill in a ib50 form by typing out info on a4 paper and stapling it onto the form instead of writing it on the form? Its just I'm better off typing than writing. I've checked the net and theres no online forms to fill in. I wanted to fill in my address and the tick boxes but other info I wanted to type it out. I rang the helpline and the woman said she didnt know so I wondered if anyone else had done it.
I also want to ask for a home medical if I have to have one when and who or where do I request one of those and can the refuse me?
I've been on ib for about 7 or 8 years and this is the first time they have sent me another form.Thanx

I would think it would be ok to type out as long as you sign and date the form at the end. Hopefully someone can confirm this. You could ask someone at the DWP who deals with Incapacity Benefit.
If you have to have a medical you will be contacted by ATOS who deal with the medicals on behalf of the DWP. You should say to them that you need a home medical and they will probably want a letter from you Doctor confirming that it is necessary. They will then decide to grant one or not.0 -
Do you think because these forms seem to be sent out from atos themselves that they do medicals anyway because they will get paid for it?Thanx

I dont know but if they are going to increase the number of medicals they will need alot more Doctors/Nurses. Not everyone on IB has to go for a medical.0 -
if you tell the truth of a bad day and include the care that you need to give him it will be fine. if there werent so many people trying to get one over on the system people like you and i would not have a problem0
