I.B Form

My hubby's incapacity benefit form came a week or 2 back, I'm really scared we might write the wrong thing on it.
So many things/boxes to tick and fill in - it scares me.....................

HIs epilepsy is getting worse though. Last week he was wedged between the settee and the coffee table all day, after a seizure. I don't want to have to pack up work as we have a mortgage.

The OP should describe a typical day, this is what is asked for in the IB medical. Otherwise a false impression can be given.

Without doubt the best advice is to go with that given by CAB or Welfare Rights. I have always recommended giving worst case scenario as this is essentially what incapacitates someone from availability for employment, however the advice from CAB will ensure one doesn't misrepresent oneself.

I agree but do make it clear what a bad day is like.

Also they often give lots of boxes to tick with options do not be scared to edit or change them slightly to something that fits your problem, then use the extra info box to clarify this information.

For instance some illnesses are variable so you can say on a bad day when in pain i can walk 10 meters. But also tick another box and say on a good day i can walk 100 meters before i start to experience pain. Also state how often you have good and bad days this helps them get a full picture of your state of health.

The above was basically taught to me by a DIAL advisor and its something ive used on my forms for a long time now.

Lastly always be honest and dont be embarassed to write down anything that may be relevant dont leave out things because your ashamed of telling people, lots of ill and disabled people do not like to tell others how much they struggle day to day (toilet needs, personal care etc).
When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.

It is how people usually are that is required, to just say the the worst case scenario is not correct.

If he has one or more seizures a week then he will score the 15 points needed for I/B,if epilepsy is his only or main problem then thats the only part of the IB50 you need to worry about, the rest covers other conditions
