I bought a tin of the value sweet and sour sauce for about 8p, from Tesco.

Luckily, also managed to find about 600g diced pork on the reduced counter for £1.77.

I mixed some cornflour with soda water and a good pinch of Chinese Five Spice and mixed the diced pork into it and left it to stand for about an hour.

I made some basmati rice and mixed it with some diced, fried lardons, peas, chopped spring onion and a shredded one-egg omelette and seasoning.

Then, I fried the pork pieces in some veg oil in a wok, having lifted them out of the cornflour batter with a draining spoon.

I mixed a dessert spoon of sweet chillie sauce into the sweet and sour sauce and heated it in a dish in the microwave.

Rice on one side of the plate, pork on the other topped with the sauce. It made enough for 4 meals and was delicious and cheap as well.

I also tried their value curry sauce with chicken and that too was just as good as an expensive jar of sauce. Just sprinkled with chopped coriander and it was lovely.

    :D

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

    Hello,

I have been doing the downshift challenge for a few weeks and its definitely hit and miss. Last week I took the plunge and tried Tesco Value nappies which I would never have considered before (normally get Tesco own or Pampers if on offer!).

Anyway, the price of £1.40 odd for 20 persuaded me and I have to say that they're not half as bad as I'd imagined. They keep it all in (no leaks all week) but they do need changing more frequently and we had a few red bums but nothing serious. I think I will mix and match with these from now on, alternating between Tesco own which will be better for longer days.

    Just thought I'd share!

PS Other value items I have tried:

Good: Chopped tomatoes, loo roll, flour, bananas, ketchup, shower gel, bin bags, eggs

Bad: Tinned custard, chocolate mousse, teacakes, sponge mix, horseradish, stock cubes

Well done! I use the Value Sponge Mix to make quick fairy cakes and they are great. I have no idea how they are supposed to produce two cakes of the size stated on the packet though! But they do give a dozen yummy fairy cakes, perfect for packed lunch boxes. Just thought I'd share, especially in case you still have some in the cupboard. :)

Tesco Value fish fingers have been awful for a couple of years - disgusting.

Most other things are great to OK.

We used the Tesco value nappies on our youngest son. Found them more then up to the job during the day because of regular changes. However when we left him overnight in one we found it leaked slightly. From then on we used the value ones during the day and put a Tesco own brand one on him at night.

Do the value ones have tabs that redo if you undo them. (hope that makes sense!)
