I was looking for value middle bacon yesterday and could only find back bacon and those cooking bits. I asked a shelf filler who said that they had stopped selling it. It was brilliant and never shrank like some of the more expensive stuff. I hope they start selling it again!

Hope they haven't discontinued it. It was only recently it was advertised on tv!

    We use loads of Tesco value stuff;
    orange juice(lovelly)
    tinned tomatoes
    pasta and spagetti
    toilet rolls
    pan scourers (a must!)
    cleaning cloths
    chocolate
    biscuits
    crisps
    butter
    pasta sauce
    flour
    eggs

Dislike the tea bags (ugh!) rice(taste of soap powder) baked beans, and the cat turned it's nose up at the cat food! Can't win em all.

LOL, yes the T-Bags are Gross, i`m all for saving money, but i just cant stomach them_pale_
The rice is PAP, soo much starch, you spend a week trying to wash it out, and then when cooked its like wallpaper paste:D
The baked beans are lovely, and i havent tasted the cat food:p

I do use the washing powder, but must admit, it makes the clothes smell like petrol, or stale paint, and doesnt do anything on stains!

Apart from that we buy most other Value stuff!

Value coffee...uuuugh! Given the choice between a handful of grit stirred into a muddy puddly and heated I'd choose gritty puddle water everytime.

Value pasta never seems to cook ....ever.... you boil it and boil it and boil it and its still only part cooked.

On the plus side value bananas, apples and spuds are good as is the flour, butter and peanut butter

Asda smart price is a much bigger range than Tesco Value & can be cheaper. Just a thought, hth.

I went to Asda during the week, I usually shop at Tescos. I thought a few of the SP range was cheaper than the value range. However, at teatime DD said look at the shape of the ketchup bottle - they do that so they don't have to put so much in. I said - no it's so it doesn't slip. DS checked the bottles and there is 554g in a 24p bottle from Asda, there is 570g in a 25p Tesco value bottle.

So, don't just check the prices check the bottle/jar/box sizes.

    Any details?

In our Tesco they have devoted one of their shelves closest to the entrance to part of the Value range. But it doesn't include the whole range.

It's quite a 'boring' display, and you have to read the labels closely so you know what you are buying :rotfl: . At least when the value range is interspersed with the 'normal' items it's slightly easier to find what you are looking for.

i do love Asda but the nearest to me is an 15 mile round trip
where as Tesco although im not a big fan is right across the road from me, but i do still use the car as i do a big shop every fortnight. i can also get my points tht i save up for christmas, already up to £50! should have £100 buy the time they a

Asda is an odd treat for me, i will go out there once every couple of months and stock up on the things i can only get from there including the huge boxes of the 2 in 1 wash powder that includes the conditioner, my last box lasted me about 3 months from there and cost me £10 yet i used to spend £5 every fortnight on a box of wash powder then another £6 a fortnight on fabric conditioner!!!  good god that is scary to see how much i was spending!!!

i am about due an Asda trip though so i better get stocked up again!! :p

I've started doing a huge shop online about once every six weeks at Asda and stock up on tins, cleaning stuff, loo rolls, stuff that can be frozen etc, then I do a mini shop once a week for fresh stuff at the local supermarket.

If you do it this way, you get your asda stuff, so cheaper, you can get it delivered free using a code from here, so no extra expense (think I actually save money but only buying what I need and leaving the impulse buys :T) PLUS someone carries it all to your front door for you! :j

Also the value tinned broken mandarin segments....a bargain at 11p, a good quick dessert

Have bought these to try thanks :D . Thought was disappointed to see they are discontinuing their Value wholemeal bread! Most of my shop last night was stripey. Got some funny looks, but do I care? Nope. I'm the one that has restocked by cupboards and fridge for less than 20 quid for three of us (eldest is away this weekend).

Haven't tried it yet but picked the Value version of Branston pickle its 28p. I'll let you know what its like.
