  • Most people do not realise is that every bit of income from wages or tax credits etc is included in working out how much HB your entitled to

Most people on here understand perfectly well the way the benefit system works and also understand that HB doesn't exist anymore, having been replaced by LHA!
  • So it's ok to judge without knowing but it's then ok to change opinion when you do know? People always going on about these people that don't work and claim benefits blah blah blah but sometimes attitudes have to change aswell? The point I am trying to make is if you are in local authority housing or own your home then you may not understand the fuss about private rented accommodation. It is just aswell the OP has no children otherwise their HB would be even less! Sorry, no infact I am not sorry, but I think that you are very arrogant. In one of your earlier posts you suggested to the op to make sure she did not work too much because she would lose her HB. She is single, with no children, so why shouldn't she work more hours to pay her way.

I think you shoud rethink your attitude towards some of the regular posters on this board, mainly ONW who is very valued and respected member of this board!

Well why dont you let us know your circumstances then instead of posting irrelevant stuff about selling council houses etc. I was making the point that if you can work more hours and claim less benefits then you should. You actually said in a previous post that if you worked more hours you would get less housing benefit which can lead people to believe that you are working part time to get more benefits. What are folk on here supposed to think

So what you saying? People should tell all about their cicrcumstances so judgement won't be passed?! and as for the irrelevant council house info I was merely making a point that if they were not sold off then chances are this question might not have been asked and not alot of people are aware that working full time can affect your HB!! I suppose when you own your own home and decide to go back to work full time for that holiday in the sun it's not going to affect the mortgage repayments is it?

LHA exists if you are claiming for the first time. HB exists to the people claiming HB BEFORE the new LHA was introduced!

Arrogant?! Maybe you should change your attitude and not judge anyone until you have walked a day in their shoes pal! And if you want the OP to work more hours then give them a job if it bothers you that much that they have no children and only work part time! Or maybe you should just ask the OP as to WHY they only work part time?!

The lady doth protests too much methinks.

It doesn't bother me the slightest if someone chooses to work part time and can afford to do so. What does bother me is when someone is subsidised to work part time by the rest of us who have to work full time to pay our own living expenses!

That's just it though. The OP can't afford to work part time and live in private rent. That is the whole point the question was asked!!! And who is to say they can afford to rent and work Full time? Yes they won't be claiming benefits to help with rent costs and possibly c'tax discount but will they still beable to afford living expenses if rent is around £500 and they only walk away with a full time minimum wage job? Remember they would have the usual bills to come off that or do we persecute them for that aswell?

What on earth do mortgage repayments and holidays in the sun have to do with the points you are making about part time working.
Working full time should affect your HB as the more money you earn the less benefits you should receive

Then they need to reconsider their options like sharing with a friend or finding lodgings for example. It is alot easier if you are single because you do have more options.
