Yes I do, you could work full-time and claim less benefits0

If some stupid old biddy in the name of Thatcher hadn't made it possible for people to buy local authority housing at a discounted price then sell them for 10x what they originally bought them for then the amount of people claiming benefits to help with living costs would not be nearly as high as it is!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have no children and aren't disabled I don't see any reason for the state to subsidise you for working part time, I don't think that any LHA etc should be payable to someone in this position unless working at least 30 hours per week and preferably 35.
Selling off council houses seems totally irrelevant as a single, able bodied person without children would have been unlikely to have been allocated one anyway.0 -

Oops forgot to throw in the fact that I am a single parent of one and had the option to quit work when my daughter was born (which by the way I was well within my rights to!!!) but did not want to as working part time enabled me to pay my own way aswell as spend the time with my daughter! There was me thinking I was doing good only to have someone's narrow mindedness and passing judgement on me without knowing the circumstances!! Charming!!
If you leave out vital bits of information then you can't be surprised that people misunderstand the situation. However, the OP has no children so comments on people working part time are still valid!0 -

A single person being offered a council house after 6 months on the waiting list - don't make me laugh!0 -

Well why dont you let us know your circumstances then instead of posting irrelevant stuff about selling council houses etc. I was making the point that if you can work more hours and claim less benefits then you should. You actually said in a previous post that if you worked more hours you would get less housing benefit which can lead people to believe that you are working part time to get more benefits. What are folk on here supposed to think0 -

Second job may be an option but current employer may not give permission? Your hardly likely to be offered one bedroomed accommodation nowwadys or any type of council housing without a lenghty waiting list. 10years ago you could be on the list for 6 months and be offered. No chance now since most of these houses are bought or owned by a bank!
I know when i worked part time 16 hours and i told my employer i was looking for another job , but it still would have fitted in with the job i was already in , they were really off with me, and i dont know why, because it has nothing to do with the present employer at all if you are working set hours. It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.0 -
