You are obviously living somewhere at the moment – can I ask if you NEED to move or if you just WANT to? If it's a case of WANTING to move out, you would be better off moving in with other people – a share of the bills will work out cheaper than having to foot the lot yourself. I've lived in house share for years – it's cost me very little and it's how I've met many of my best friends...
I was going to raise this point in my post, then completely forgot. I have to agree with you - as I myself did this. I was even in a shared room in a house with my partner until I was 5 months pregnant as it was financially the sensible thing to do as we didn't NEED our own place at the time. We then rented a 1 bed flat until my lo was 2 month old and then moved into a 2 bed house as this would be required. Its definately a situation of do you need or want...Daughters Sealed Saving Pot - start them young :money: £90 :T0 -
Anyway, back to the main issue - many people now are being FORCED onto part time hours due to the recession, and are therefore losing tax credits as well as wages. And employers do not take kindly to people who get a 2nd job - they expect you to be available to work for them, not for someone else.
If the employer have cut your hours, what do they expect you to do? Live off fresh air or get a second job? So long as doing a second job doesn't detract from your current job and you work your contracted hours it is none of your employers concernDaughters Sealed Saving Pot - start them young :money: £90 :T0 -
I suppose you don't envisage any circumstances in which you might be forced to claim benefits.
Nope, never have and never will. I have taken steps to ensure I will not have to ever claim benefits, except my State Pension which having made the required contributions is an entitlement rather than a benefit.0 -

Of course, if your employer cuts back your hours then the benefits system is there as a safety net until either the economy picks up or you get another job. Surely this is a completely different thing from an able bodied young person choosing to work part time and other people encouraging them not to work more hours or it will affect their benefits?0 -
Hey Annabelle,
If your in a position where you are £30 a month short, You are working funny shifts but only 20 hours a week are you sure you cant increase your hours?
If not then, you should look at some other sort of flexible working, do you drive? could you deliver catalouges? chat lines? Teletech? dog-walking? cleaning....
I am not jumping on the wagon, but if you are able bodied then you shouldnt slip into the benefits system. Also i was slightly confused when you said you'd waited for this job for 10 years, that would of made you 15? little bit of an exageration there?Had my amazing little girlie 08/12/2007 - 11 days late! 9lbs 3oz

Actually as you are determined to comment on your circumstances (I didn't) you do have a choice - you could work f/t or study for something - it would be the ideal time to do so - by the time your child goes to school you would be ready to go to work & support yourself and the child!! ok, now you shout your head off at the very idea.....
Ok first of all I already work so I am and have been for 4 years supporting me and my child! All be it I work part time so I don't have to pay for childcare because let's face it if I did work full time, that would mean claiming an extra element of the CTC to pay for childcare  perish the thought - someone claiming a benefit oh dear has the world gone mad?:rotfl:0 -
oh dear has the world gone mad?
Quite!
That's the first sensible point you have made!0 -

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: The world must be mad to let the small narrow minded people in it still think and judge the way they do! And it is quite sad to think that these people and their attitudes still exist. Maybe a week in the lives of others and "their world" might make you understand and maybe appreciate just how hard and expensive the rental market can be. Or maybe you can offer the OP accommodation? A second job? No didn't think so! You sit there and mump your gums about it but are you actually doing anything about it other than judging?
Yeah I came up with the same answer ..... so well done to you for sitting on your backside - all talk no action :T Do you get to a certain age where you have nothing better to do other than criticise other people's circumstances? Oh what an exciting life you must lead:rolleyes:0 -

Wow very grown up and mature! Ok since we are in the process of insulting one another you are a judgemental, narrow minded busy body who must be so unhappy with their own life that they have to try and criticise others for living their life in a way that they either choose to or not and all because you have spent an x amount of years paying tax!
Big F'ing deal! That still does not give you the right to judge to another person!0
