If you have accidental damage cover on buildings then yes, if you only have standard cover most policies include accidental damage to "Sanitory Ware" automatically.

Accidental Damage cover on buildings is relatively cheap in comparison to contents cover, I would recommend it as they often pay claims that are not covered by other sections if you have accidental damage cover

    Thanks dacouch

I always go for accidential cover for buildings, however on contents I have not bothered the last couple of years as I wouldn't really claim for things like spilt drinks on on carpet etc..

I think it is worth it for the big stuff like kitchens, bathrooms etc though

It would be interesting if you let us know roughly how much your contents come to as it may help other MSE members in a similar position to you!

Don't forget to add major purchases to you list in the future and index link it to keep it up to date.

I have not completed this yet and don't have any good excuses either, so will need to get on with it, but just had a thought that I have so many Christmas decorations which are worth quite abit that I wouldn't have even remember to account for as they only come out for a few weeks a year.. I might need to write details of these to the list aswell..

Having completed a comprehensive list when we downsized a few years ago and sold off the larger furniture - I was then a bit irked to discover my cheapest policy was with M&S (and continues to be). And they operate a 'no limits' policy ... so you don't have to specify a value either of the structure or the contents.

Very useful ........ but still sensible to keep a fairly comprehensive list running ..... and some selective 'photos to back it all up :-

Thanks Mikeyorks for the link, in reality I wonder how this works - or if anyone tries to abuse it? I will bear them in mind for next years renewal - didn't get a quote from them this time around..

The M&S policy is underwritten by Axa and is designed for what we call Mid Net clients eg above average wealth but not well above average.

Anyone in the know willl tell you that it is currently probably best to avoid policies underwritten by Axa as they on customer service and claims they are either fairly good or more likely very poor. They were a good company but have gone over board on cutting staff / using off shore call centres. Hopefully they will sort themselves out in the long run
