Liverpool Victoria - Are they any good? Comments pls

Hi

My Car insurance runs out in March and the best deal I have found so far is with Liverpool Victoria at £352 for the year (which is great as it's half of what I'm paying now as I turned 25 last year). I will be using my NHS Cashback site so will get £20 cashback as well.

Just want to know if anyone has had any problems with LV or would recommend them? Have always been with the AA or had free insurance when I bought the car.

Thanks for looking :D

They've always had a good reputation, they're a 'friendly society', probably the biggest I think. Been around forever - I remember my grandfather in the 1950's paying 1/- a week to the man form the Liverpool Victoria who called in person (or might have been a month) for some annuity that paid out in the 60s.

If you have a quote from LV have a look at what the total excess is (Voluntary Excess plus any Compulsory Excess) as they have a habbit of quoting with a Voluntary Excess of £350 on top of a £100 excess to make themselves come at the top of the screen. They may have stopped doing this recently but were renowned for it.

If they have done it just requote with a total excess you are happy with and compare the revised price with the rest of the market.

LV are not to bad a company on claims, just watch the excess

    Good point.
My recent renewal from AXA added £50 excess to £200.
Did a search and found a cheaper quote - saved £100.
Always do a search when you get the renewal letter.
Drive carefully... it well worth it financally ;)

My father has been with them for years now for both car and house insurance and never had a problem. Based on his experiences I took out car insurance with them just four days ago.

dacouch, thanks for pointing this out, i wasn't aware of this - I rang to specifically ask them about this and they confirmed access as below . I have a quote from them for £168.46 for a 2 bed house.

The excess is £100, or £1000 for subsidence, heave and landslip.

It includes £1,000,000 buildings inc accidental and £30,000 excl accidental contents also legal expenses upto £50,000.

Is £30,00 a good amount for contents? We don't have anything extremely valuable - most cost items are sofas, tvs etc

I went through quidco last year, would I beable to get a requote and go through them again this year or would that not be allowed?

Just remember LV outsource their entire buildings claims department to Homeserve, so if you have a builings claim its Homeserive that deal with the claim from start to finish, Homeserve call centres and contractors etc.

Which can lead to some very messy claims if things go wrong.

LV are looking at leaving Homeserve due to a large volume of problems, Homerve is also trying to sell off its insurance repair business to a 3rd party to cut losses and getout of insurance repair

Is this a situation you want to buy into if you have a claim?

I'm with LVE, have been for a year and have had no problems with them. However, their glass excess is 75 and when mine got broken by vandals that was a bit of a blow, I should have checked the policy better than I did as previously my excess was 50 for glass. Also if I'd had the damage to the car door (caused by the glass breakage) fixed it would have cost me another 125 plus my no claims bonus. Worth checking the small print carefully to make sure you know exactly what you will have to lose/pay for if you get hit by an uninsured driver or are a victim of vandalism or theft.

VickyHurn I wasn't aware of this, thank you - I need to get some quotes however when I went into the moneysavingexpert site it asks how much it will cost to rebuild your house and I'm not sure, is it ok to just but the value of your house as it wouldn't cost more than this would it?

I don't know who is good to insure with but will do some more research first..
