Warning! Do you use Childcare Vouchers? Check you're really saving money. Updated Guide
I'm a big fan of childcare vouchers, which some parents gain £1,000s a year from as they allow you to pay for childcare from PRE-tax income. The Problem: A recent e-mail from the Low Incomes Tax Reform Group alerted me to put in a further note of caution, especially for basic rate taxpayers. You may be worse off with childcare vouchers as it limits childcare tax credit eligibility (which can be in the £1,000s); the easiest way to check is the Govt Calculator (though it could do with improving). The less you earn the less likely it is you're benefiting, those with family income under £16,000 are almost always not better off. Updated Guides: Childcare Vouchers, Childcare Costs0 -
Well so much for my cosy sick day in bed. No sooner had I snuggled down for the morning, hubby rang to say he had crashed the car on the way to work. Pregnant lady in her Smart car to the rescue!!! Went and found him, called the RAC and hey presto, he was on his merry way again. No major damage (just his pride), just a burst tyre on account of collision with a bollard - not his fault at all of course. Apparently it was some 'stupid old man' who was indicating and then changed his mind whilst hubby was driving round him. Still, we dont need the expense of a new tyre and wheel hub thingy mabobby!
Back on the sofa now and thats where I shall stay!

In case you miss my post in the main forum here is something that all members in the pregnancy club should be interested in.
From April 2009, you may be able to get a one-off, tax-free payment if you're a mum-to-be. The payment is called 'Health in Pregnancy Grant' and you can make a claim for it from 1 January 2009 if your expected delivery date is on or after 6 April 2009. The money is to help you stay well and healthy and to meet extra costs during the later stages of your pregnancy.
