Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Debt-free and Proud!
Loulee - my BMI at booking in appointment was 34, and no one has said anything to me about my weight, yet. (BTW I have probably put on more then 2lbs just this week!!)
I think some local health authorities put more pressure on overweight mums than others, My midwife hasn't weighed me since booking in. a BMI of 35.1 is nothing, don't worry about it and as Sami says just relish the opportunity to see your baby more often. :)

Right, this thing with people texting...

I think some people just want you to know they are thinking of you but don't really know what to say so it comes across as extremely irritating!. It did annoy me at the time but if people didn't ask I guess I would have been slightly miffed and thought they didn't care!;). Its a no win really...

And, one friend's DH did in fact 'forget' to let me know about the birth!. I didn't find out until baby was 8 days old as I didn't want to pester :o.

Hope everyone is well today :D.

Babies are off to Nanna's for the afternoon so I'm off shopping! :T

  • My BMI was 27 at booking in and I got a telling off (she didn't ask how active I was or what my diet was like - it was like 'you're fat' so it must be a problem. felt like taking her outside and seeing who could run round the block quicker!) She wasn't at all warm or friendly or remotely interested. Was a shame because you hear of really good midwives who make a difference to women's lives - we were just left feeling a bit cold...

I was weighed at 1st scan, so only 4 weeks after booking and I'd put on (allegedly 3 1/2 kg    ) How is this possible?! am putting it down to different scales :o BMI must be nearer 30 now so am dreading next MW appt, will be for the high jump!

You just missed the cut off MTW ;)
a BMI of 35+ is when the whoop whoop really fat person alert goes off in medical peeps heads:rolleyes:
it pees me off I mean seriously I don't think anyone over weight is under any illusions that they are perfectly healthy but pregnancy is not the time to be worrying about being overweight!!

Hi i was just wondering if anyone else was being mointered because over being over weight? my bmi is 35.1 and now i have to have mroe scans, and get told frequently im too over weight! yet ive only put on 2lbs in 5 months, i have to do a sugar load test at 28 weeks and have a review later on :( it annoys me i knwo im overweight! but i dont need ot be told over and over aagin1

My BMI is 45, so I got a very stern telling off! The consultant I saw was very nasty, so I've asked to not see her again. The receptionists book me in with a Registrar or a Locum instead. If it is a specific person, perhaps you could ask that?

I've not had much extra care because of being overweight - normal midwife appointments, one Consultant appointment at 20 weeks, extra scan and appointment at 34 weeks. I had to have the Glucose Tolerance Test too.

I found it quite upsetting when she was having a go, I mean, I was 20 weeks pregnant and fat. What exactly did she want me to do about it?

They don't usually weigh you after booking in app, in fact if you know ur weight they don't even do that here, its purely so they can write ur BMI on ur notes

Its just sill I mean look at andrea wotsit off GMTV and loose women she certainly didn't have a high BMI pre preg but put on over 4stone surely that is worse than a woman with a high BMI who doesn't put on weight!

  • lioness - I found that my MW was really business like at the start - like she just had a list of things to say to me and anything that veered away from that list was an inconvenience.

Now (I am 41 weeks today) I think she is great, we have developed a lovely relationship and I was gutted last week when there was a possibility that I might not see her again (she is on holiday at the moment). She said whatever happens she will pop in and meet my little boy, even if I have been discharged from MW care.

I think it is tough for them at the beginning, they have to process so much information.

I guess I am saying give her time - she might be a good one yet!

  • agree - i just get fed up with health practitioners always going on your weight and nothing else - if you're overweight you must be an unhealthy couch potato who needs their disapproval to kick you into action! If your BP's fine, you eat relatively well and get some activity into your life, are you really so much worse than a normal weight but unhealthy person?

sorry - just had this all my life - PG is just a new way to get it!
