Hello. I'm another one that left London in 2004 to come and live in the lovely North West Capital of Manchester. I live in Irlam and its ok, train into Manchester is frequent no tram though. Kind a forgot bet of a town on the edge of Manchester. Even Cadishead but it quiet there... Some "bits" of Eccles are gorgeous. Monton and Worsley are quite leafy - not good on trains but loads of buses :j Also some bits of Walkden are ok. Please dont' be put off by the Salford name. Some bits are def rough as are some bits of London (dodge bits of East Ham, Forest Gate and some bits of dodgy Barnet!).Come and have a good look. In hindsight I should have rented when I first moved up here but couldn't bear to not invest in a property...
Agreed Urmston, Trafford, Flixton don't know Leigh well. Warrington is one to consider. Takes you into a town rather than the lovely Manchester but you'll get a lot for a money and 'pretend' Cheshire postcode (if that's what you want - yes I'm being cheeky!)0 -
Anyone have thoughts of Westhoughton, in Bolton?0

Standish near Wigan is pleasant, lots of amenities and close to J27 M6 then onto M62. Good schools, nice indivdual shops, bank, restaurants,Nurseries. Different styles of housing stock. We have relatives who live in the area, and it is very pleasant.

Hi
First post so please dont shoot me down. Have to say IMO that to be a 40 commute from Stretford then really you need to look south of or along the East Lancs road (A580). If you start to go north of there then your commute can be up to an hour - especially if there is an accident on the 580 or the motorways.
I would suggest Timperley or an east warrington post code (knowing this side of manchester) Timperley would provide access to Altrincham and centre of manchester and a very short commute to Stretford (about 10 minutes). Loads of nurseries shops etc.
If you go for one of the towns east of Warrington - follow the train line. This would give you your 30 - 40 min commute to Stretford and then give your Mrs access to Manchester or Warrington.
Now you could look at East Manchester - I dont know that area at all - but feel you would most likely have the same issues regarding traffic.0 -
Sorry to drag a ded thread out of its grave !! thought it be better than starting a new one !!!
we are thinking of moving to Worsley in Manchester - anyone know what the nice and not so nice parts of Worsley are?
On rightmove I keep getting Boothtown coming up as well as Walkden? - Any ideas from the Mancs that may be in here

Prices in Sale have dropped loads recently, great place to live. Urmston to has improved a lot over the years.
If you plan to drive to work from Leigh, expect to be sitting in lots and lots of traffic.0
