  • I too figured this out yesterday and set up a new account and added one that was due to expire on 1st Sept.

I was then able to book a hotel last night without the £30 fee!!

Got my online confirmation and everything.

Do it quick before they close the loop-hole!!!

  • I have not had any form of communication from Air Miles threatening to close down my account and confiscate my 10,000 or so miles, even though I had not collected any new Air Miles for at least three years.

However after reading the press stories in May I changed my Shell Drivers Club back to earning Air Miles instead of yet more cashback (about 0.5% to 1% depending on the number of litres purchased per month) on to my Shell Citi Mastercard in addition to the standard 3% cashback earned directly on the Mastercard itself for purchasing Shell fuel.

I have just logged in to my Air Miles account and find that 6 miles were credited from Shell at the end of May. I think this is probably one of the more reliable ways to keep your Air Miles account going if you buy petrol at all regularly at Shell. At 0.5% cashback on say £1200 of fuel a year it may be costing me £6 per annum. I suppose this is actually more expensive than redeeming the occasional Tesco £2.50 Clubcard voucher but somehow it seems less painful because you were never given the money in the first place before then turning it in to Air Miles. I have no intention of collecting any more Air Miles with credit cards etc because they are becoming increasingly hard to redeem. For instance this November there are very few Air Miles flights available to Australia and mysteriously the only ones that are available from Heathrow are with Virgin and not with British Airways. How can that possibly make any commercial sense?

Can anyone answer my question, please?
I have about 900 airmiles and have had 'the letter'!
My husband has 40 and not had 'the letter'!
Can I transfer my airmiles to his account?
I wanted to buy some wine but the admin charge means I would be paying £30 for 6 bottles of wine-bit of a waste!!
Thanks for any help given xx

Buy something you need through their online shopping portal at https://www.airmiles.co.uk that will then add some miles to your account and mean you can spend the 900 miles without paying an admin charge.

Or alternatively you can convert a £2.50 Tesco Clubcard voucher in to 60 Air Miles if you feel it is worth it to protect the 900 Air Miles you have already collected and to eliminate the redemption charge. Also if you ever buy petrol at Shell then getting a Shell Drivers Club card and opting to convert those to Air Miles is a way to keep a small trickle of Air Miles accumulating on your account to prevent it becoming inactive.
  • my letter states that they have to be updated with one point or are lost by end of october 2009. do the threads that state 6 months man that we have longer than the letters state to earn the point required

I suspect it would pay dividends to telephone their customer service department as I imagine their staff may be given discretion to extend the deadline to anyone who feels hard done by and is likely to lose a lot of miles.

Buying goods through the airmiles.co.uk shopping affiliate links on their website or redeeming Tesco Clubcard vouchers were previously reported as the fastest ways to earn Air Miles but you only have a very short period left so I would try to get an extension agreed by Air Miles.

I did an Avon order through Airmiles so should get a few miles to keep my account afloat!
    Thanks again

I bought 2 airmiles off ebay and went through in about 2 weeks.
