I had not used AMs for years, but decided to use them up to buy my annual Travel Insurance. Went in and they were going to charge a £30 Admin Fee as I had gone dormant, so I bought 60 AMs with £2.50 Tesco voucher. Then bought the Insurance, a very good deal I thought!

I have around 1500 miles and got the dreaded letter to say there would be a £30 fee to use them.. I have just quickly logged onto Tesco clubcards to convert £2.50 into airmiles - will that be too late now? Will the £30 fee go away once that is credited?

    I can't believe I didn't use them when I had the chance - hope I don't lose them but don't want to pay £30..

Fingers crossed I'll beable to do what you did portchieboy??

How's everyone else doing with their airmiles - have you got these letters and has £30 been added to your online account?? Good luck to all of you in avoiding this..

  • I tried to redeem my 1500 free airmiles which i received by using the Lloyds credit card. Iwas told that as i was not flying from London then i had to add 500 miles per person to any booking. Therefore instead of taking my wife to Paris as planned, which is within their zone 1, i did not have enough airmiles, and the only destination i could travel to was within the U.K. The flights available were very limited, as was the accommodation. I feel this was a bit of a rip off, as there is no mention of any additional airmiles required from a regional airport until you try to book.

In the full terms and conditions it does state:
"We've used return economy flights from London for our examples (just add 500 miles for departures from non-London airports). "

    Hi
I have 480 airmiles and quite a few BA miles on 2 diff accounts. Is it better to convert my tesco vouchers to airmiles or to the BA miles?
one better than the other in terms of conversion rate/flights?

    Thanks

    Hi all

I've been trying to get that elusive extra mile added to my Airmiles account. It's a bit late -- as others have noted -- for Airmiles to direct people to Shell and the like, and all the online sites I've seen give that warning that it can take up to 35 days. I've yet to find one that doesn't, but have four or five online purchases in the pipeline.

I've rung Airmiles and some of these partners. Interestingly, Airmiles suggested that the deadline would be extended. I haven't had that in writing, but you could ask. They suggested that the quickest way is to credit anyone's Tesco voucher to your account. Alas, I don't have anyone to hand as I live in one of the few areas not dominated by Tesco.

The response from partners is interesting. I've been trying to find out when they "tell" Airmiles so I know who to chase. Only play.com immediately knew what I was on about. They told me that Airmiles are alerted as soon as your payment goes through. Lovefilm, on the other hand, denied all knowledge in a confused sort of way. I noted to them that they should take more notice, because they're paying Airmiles in any event, and a failure in the system will reflect badly on them too, so they might want to push Airmilies themselves. Mention the infamous Hoover promotion! Perhaps a bit more pressure on all involved would help, even at this late stage.

Given that Airmiles say that miles are normally credited very quickly, it's odd that I've been waiting for over three weeks for any of these. Some might wonder if they are just trying to get people to spend their balance and £30 very quickly.

All I can say is keep pushing Airmiles and their partners!

I am still a bit confused. I have over 21000 "BA miles" collected and visible within my account on the BA Executive Club website. On that site all you can use them for is flights with BA and partners.

Are these the same as Airmiles?

If so how can I create an account on airmiles.co.uk and link it to my miles?

The thing is in this circumstance Play etal don't pay Airmiles directly they pay an affiliate network for directing traffic to their site and the affiliate network would pay airmiles.

Hence if you use airmiles purchases, quidco, cashbackkings or other sites all would direct you via possibly the same affilate network who would record the purchase details.

BA Miles and airmiles are unfortunately different and can't be interchanged.

Thanks for explaining that, BunnyGirl33. How do we find out who the affiliate is? Everything goes through the Airmiles website, though, so I still think that they should take responsibility for chasing this. I'd be happy to contact an affiliate!

I had my letter this week and have till sept 2009 to collect. I was going to use their online stores, next HMV or itunes purchase go thru airmiles site. Did this with BA ad worked fine. I was sure this would work and accrue as with the shell card you have to have a certain amunt accrues before you can convert. is this correct?
