Have any of you experienced the blocky then freezing tiscali tv ??? Mine does it now!!!
  • found this thread and thought I would say a few words, we were with aol, towards the end about a year or so ago, we had nothing but problems with them, and moved to tiscali.

All we can say is inthis past year, we have no problems at all, the broadband connection is fast, it has never frozen on us, and now we run from the one router, two lap tops and a playstation three, when our eldest comes home on leave, its then three lap tops and the playstation on at the same time, it has never slowed down for us, can say we are very pleased with them.

once we have had to phone customer services, because we lost conncection, they were helpful fast in acting on our behalf, very understanding, and helped solve the problem instantly.

we are on the £14.69p [now vat has been reduced] package. [it was 14.99 a month] just internet connection, no phone line with them, nor tv package, none are available yet in our area, when we first phoned them up they told us instantly that they could not offer us the phone line or tc package at the moment, but would contact us when these were in our area. Nothing but praise for this company at all. instantly online, without any problems at all.

    have no complaints at all.
nothing is impossible, just maybe difficult.
  • I moved to Tiscali at the end of 2007, following what I thought was a good offer and a couple of good reviews from friends.
However I found the service, and particularly the customer service to be diabolical.
Firstly I was told that there would be free line rental within my area within 6 months of me taking the contract, this did not happen for the duration of my contract.
I found it difficult to connect and view my online bills, as all passwords were sent to my Tiscali inbox (which of course I couldn't access without the passwords), despite me asking for them to be sent to an alternative email.
I was misinformed when calling to cancel my account at the end of the contract, leading to a later cancellation date.
Tiscali continued to debit my bank account after the cancellation.
I called them 5 times (a national rate line and long waiting times), and wrote to them once regarding the cancellation and cancellation date and found the customer service to be extremely poor.
My written complaint has been replied to in an extremely cursory and unhelpful manner and I now feel obliged to take them through CISAS as although the amount in question is relatively small, I cannot allow them to get away with what amounts to lies and bullying.
Anyone who hasn't already been suckered into going with Tiscali:
    *****READ THE REVIEWS*****

I am a fair person and found this company to be appalling.

Incidentally, I would welcome input on anyone who has been through the complaints / CISAS process successfully.

    Where do I start.

I moved to tiscali last month to get away from BT.
Nothing but technical problems from there end regarding broadband since.

My connection dropped to 0.8mbps (something they said was good) My line takes up to 2mbps. Its now back there after constant complaints.

    Spoke to soon

Now, I find it very hard to connect (constant DNS problems) and so no connection at all. I complain, they ignore the complaint, I have just spent 25 minutes on the phone to a call centre worker who went as slow as possible to eventually decide to get someone to call me back in 24 to 48 hours. Thats after my initial complaint was closed - with no action taken, even though they said someone would fix it that night (Saturday) - obvious lie there.

My offical complaint to the complaints department has gone unanswered after 3 days (even though they say 24 hours). (I also asked for my call costs back for the 0891 and 020 call costs - why should I pay for there problems)

All in all, if you're after good connection speed and a connection at all, look for broadband elsewhere.

And as an update to this I'm just back on line after 1 and a half hours with another DNS problem, and another lengthy phone call to tiscali that got me nowhere.
Tip with the phone call insist that they call you back as you are the customer and you are paying for a service you are not receiving and you might get a reduction in your rental as well (i've had 3)

I'm in the process of cancelling my Pipex broadband, I have my MAC code. At what point would it be prudent to cancel the direct debit?
    I don't really trust Tiscali/Pipex

Don't touch them with a barge pole !

I was with Pipex but it turned into a nightmare when Tiscali took over.
I left them last May, they eventually repaid money owing to me just before Christmas, nearly £300, but now phone at least three times a week and send letters telling me I owe them nearly £300

As soon as you have paid your final bill.

However it doesn't stop them setting up the direct debit and claiming money, or sending you a letter threatening debt collectors 6 months later for some bill you don't owe them.

If they do the first use the direct debit guarantee and claim the money back from your bank. (You need to do this in writing to avoid arguing with ignorant bank staff.)

Then either way threaten in writing to take Tiscali to court for harassment, breach of contract and the breach of the supply of goods and services act if they send you another letter or insist you owe them money. And most importantly give them 21 days to respond to your letter. Do not ring them up as they use an 0870 number.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • Phew, glad I got out from Pipex before Tiscali screwed them up.
  • i got tiscali for over a year. i pay £14.99 inc line rental, free weekend calls and unlimited 8 meg broadband and was initially given a wireless router.

so far i havnt got any problem with them. even though net goes slow at peak times but thats sumin with every isp. i run 3 laptops and a ps3 with monthly usage of bout 150+ gigs. runs wells. no problem whatsoever.i havnt been in any problem yet.

but ill soon be goin bck to bt for line rental at £10.50 a month (after confirming 0845 / 0870 numbers) and be broadband which gives me 6 months free on a 12 month contract
