  • be carefull , they will call you 20 times tillget you in, after you become custumer and face offten problem you will have to pay and to ait and wait to get to teh.department.
    good luck
  • Avoid Tiscali. Never be taken in by a good deal that they offer.

    Problems with Tiscali:

    1. Your connection will be vastly slower than BT (don't like them really, but they are much better than Tiscali). At peak hours Tiscali's speed is less than 0.5Mb, BT will be over 1Mb. A 30 second YouTube video takes over a minute to buffer at peak times!

    2. Tiscali's communication sucks. Got a tech problem or an administrative query? You'll spend ages on the phone using an 0871 number at 10 pence per minute getting nowhere. Email them instead? - expect a 2-3 day wait to get an answer, which won't be too helpful. You'll just get a reply saying that a ticket has been assigned to the problem and you just never get a date as to when the problem will be rectified.

Tiscali also own Bulldog, Pipex and some other ISP's as well, so watch out.

What I'd advise with broadband is:

    - Don't try to save £3 or £4 a month, it just isn't worth it if the company has the worst customer service in the world. And money saved can be wiped out with just one phone call.
    - Do a test call to the ISP's tech support line to see how quickly you get through and to make sure you also get a voice you can understand.
    - Also avoid Orange, they are a joke too
  • To give you the other side of the coin, I've been with them for years and never had a problem, I have my line rental as well and that's been fine since day 1 as well :)

It doesn't take much research to find out how bad Tiscali is. ( amongst a few other ISP's ).

You do seem to get what you pay for with ISP's.
  • Be careful about the inclusive line rental. I signed up last September for the £19.99 deal only to find out recently that the inclusive line rental isn't available in our area. The online registration process and cutomer advisors didn't tell us at the time !

Now having fun and games trying to sort out the problem.

I have just signed up, no problems (yet), but I am beginning to accept that most broadband companies are rubbish!
IF YOU SIGN UP THROUGH THE TESCO COMPARISION WEBSITE, YOU WILL GET 1ST 3 MONTHS FOR 15 POUNDS! ALSO, TRY QUIDCO FOR £30...
The plus for tiscali, 12 month contract and broadband/telephone line rental for £20.
The negatives, there are a lot!

Same with me, been with them since i first bought a computer about 8 years ago and has been fine aside from the odd glitch here n there, speed is always around 2.3mbps, hardware is old but still works too, have not had to replace or repair anything (yet!!).

Most, but not all, there are excellent ISP's, however they are not the cheapest ones, nor are they usually the biggest ones.

Any ISP that requires a long term contract to stitch customers in, should be avoided IMO.

My ISP has a 30 day contract, a freephone contact number for help, and they employ real technical people that answer the phone within 3 rings.

Very true Inactive. Which company are you with?

At the moment, Tiscali suits my needs. I might be moving from the flat i rent in approx 12 months and so my options were limited. Also, paying BT on top of my old ISP (madasafish), we were paying 40 pounds per month!
