Recession exacerbated by sSmoking Ban in public

I smoke and i am not proud, i would like to think i am what you would say a non selfish smoker, i never smoke at my friends house as she does not smoke, not even in the garden. I have a smoking jumper, spray deodrant on and wash my hands after each one.
I do not smoke around my children or my MIL who is a non smoker.
It certainly would not stop me applying for a job if it said non smoking, what is more important a quick ciggy or a job, thats about priorities.
As for the pubs around here the ones that have thrived are the ones that planned for the ban, ie a decent outdoor area for smokers, an upgraded area for non smokers and decent fa,mily rooms where children can play safely.
As for a ban on pubs its the best thing thats ever happened because of the idiot smokers that waved there fags around like they were something to show off and burnt hole in many of my nice outfits.
I see people walk out supermarkets a light up the straight away regardless of who is behind them, i have seen people holding their ciggies so low that if i was not watching it would have been in my childs face when he wa sn the pushcahirs, when ask to shift it i was looked at in disgust. Its idiots like this why the ban is a good thing. I hope it also makes people more aware of how unattractive and disgusting it really is.
Can you now see i am in the process of hating ciggies hopefully by this time next month i will have started my next chapter as a non smoker. :A
I hope the ban comes to cars soon. The amount of people i see smoking with children in their cars with the windows up is scandalous. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

You are confusing 'clean areas' with LEV. In a clean area, air flow direction is controlled throughout and inlet air is HEPA filtered. This is done for product product protection.
Providing air velocity criteria are satisfied, LEV works equally well in a rickety old publ as a modern laboratory. Well designed LEV systems achieve the desired outcome with low air change rate.
Having a smoking room is even easier. All you do is put an extraction fan in the room so that the direction of air flow is always towards the room from adjacent rooms. An arrangement like this would give smokers what they want without disturbing other people. The anti smoking lobby refuse to listen to solutions like this because they are determined to impose their own values on other people.
and why should an establishment pay for this - if a customer wants to smoke, they can go outside. simple as. there's your solution.
i don't want to be passive smoking.
on the other hand if you're wanting the government to make this investment you'd be one of the ones complaining that it was a waste if money and the money should be spent on building a new home in Wigan for the one armed icelandic muslim ex-criminal mother of four who had a self-cert mortgage who was going to be deported.0 -

I think you have just answered your own question.0 -

When I get to be Prime Minister, there will be a rule that requires smokers to stay inside for their cigarettes whilst sanctamonious do gooders are made to wait outside. Considerate non smokers will be welcome to stay inside. I will be implementing these arrangements entirely for health reasons. Not only will this protect the busy bodies from passive smoke but it will also shut their nagging up. Remember nagging causes stress and can have long term effects on health.0 -

"Time is being called on happy hours and two-for-one offers on alcoholic drinks as figures indicate that excessive drinking puts 800,000 people in hospital a year at a cost to the NHS of £2.7 billion a year. "
http://www.ash.org.uk/ash_eyhkq96u.htm
The annual cost of smoking to the NHS in England has soared from £1.7 billion a year in 1998 to £2.7 billion this year. Presented at the NCRI conference today the figures are included in a major new report, ‘Beyond Smoking Kills' published by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), in collaboration with the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and endorsed by over 100 health and welfare organisations (1). The cost of smoking to the NHS would have risen even more – to more than £3 billion a year - if Government action, health education and changing social attitudes had not led over the last decade to a fall in the total number of smokers from nearly 12 million to just over 9 million (2).[/quote]
Obesity costs the NHS more than either tobacco or alcohol related illnesses -so... we should keep fat smoking drinkers out of the pubs?
Who'd be left?:rolleyes:Poor and content is rich enough!0 -

Have the costs of obesity risen since gastric bypasses were given out on the NHS? Now please don't shoot me as a friend of mine as had one and my aunt is going for one. But they are not overweight because the eat too much? I have told my aunt if her weight is not because of food then a bypass is not for her. The frightening thing is she says it will be easier. Obviously did nto undertsna you could die on the table part!
I am all for people getting the help they need as it can help with other medical issues, but only to a certain extent anyone having this op should be sent on a food program run by nutrionists.
The friend i mentioned, well her eating habits are still apalling and her children are overweight, what is that teaching them. If i wanted to become a man i would have to spend 2 years convincing psyhc's that it really was what i wanted. If you want to be thin then you should prove you can make food and understand food enough to stay a healthy weight! You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

You mean the ones who actually know how to run a business  The provision of outside heaters and seating that could actually double pub capacity, I know I have seen it.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is.
