That said, I think I'll give up my job and stay at home on the dole. It's because they won't let me smoke while I work. Yup, gonna give up my well paid job for JSA and a few ciggies.

The Smoking Ban of smoking in public has certainly not helped the gernal ecnonomy or the recession.

    3) The Wills factory (woodbines) in Newcastle upon Tyne has closed and had its factory turned into flats becuase the company went bust.

When the ban came in to force last year people said it wouldnt harm any businesses or close pubs etc. It is obvious that thousands of people are now suffering / losing jobs or not applying for them becasue of it.

The Wills factory in Newcastle closed donkeys years ago, long before the ban. It closed around the mid eighties IIRC.
Damn, it wasn't a Labour Gov't then - I suppose our dearest Margaret will have to be blamed for that then.;)

Choice- if you want a non smoking pub go to one.

What if most of your friends are selfish drug addicts who, rather than coming to the non-smoking pub once in a while, offer you the choice between staying at home alone, and cancer?
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

    Get new friends at once.

However smoking is legal drugs are not.

Calling smokers drug addicts is a bit harsh.

Abit like comparing an air rifle to an m16 machine gun.

It might be legal, but it's still an addictive drug.

The market failed - most people don't smoke, but until the ban London only had three non-smoking pubs.

Why? Because smokers are made selfish by their cravings, and non-smokers would always give up and go with it.

The nightclub where I DJ is busier since the ban than it ever was before, recession or not.

Ban pouring the dregs of your drink down the throats of people who just want a lemonade, yes.

When you drink, you drink. When you smoke, everyone within about ten feet of you smokes too.

The same with drinking i dont have to be drunk for some p!sshead to decide i looked at him funny and smash my face in on a saturday night.

The nhs spend more of its money on alcohol related problems than on smoking.

Only just really read this but if the choice is staying at home or cancer well guess what i will stay at home.

However thats not the choice is it.
  • well i have just got back from work as a busy pub licensee, yes pubs have close, yes takings are down but the no smoking factor has levelled iteslf out now, its the recession that is the problem now!!
but the good pubs with reasonable prices and a large client base are still doing well, the others have been weeded out, surely this is what happens every few years!
and i was a smoker for 10 years and would have probably given up earlier if there was a ban! its good for people, and they will have more money to spend elsewhere if they choose!!!!
