Recession exacerbated by sSmoking Ban in public

The Smoking Ban of smoking in public has certainly not helped the gernal ecnonomy or the recession.

1) Lots of people are not applying for jobs becuase nowadays they are not allowed to smoke on the premises - mechanics, factory workers, office workers etc - this has driven the figures up.

2) Pubs / restuarants / cafes / liesure centres etc have seen a pllummet in customers becuase now trhey cant smoke in peace.

3) The Wills factory (woodbines) in Newcastle upon Tyne has closed and had its factory turned into flats becuase the company went bust.

4) People are feeling more depressed now and thereofre wanting to smoke now which is not allowed now so it reinforces the whole vicios circle again.

When the ban came in to force last year people said it wouldnt harm any businesses or close pubs etc. It is obvious that thousands of people are now suffering / losing jobs or not applying for them becasue of it.

My vote for most pointless post ever. And I'm not just saying that because it's you Derv.

With reference to number one, even you, surely, cannot think this is even vaugely in the realms of realism? And if someone, somewhere, didn't apply for a job because they couldn't smoke whilst doing it then they don't deserve a job.

The only exception to the above is Slash from Guns N Roses where Marlboros are part of the job description.

Ithink i may have started this recession and would like to fess up.

I used to go out three or four times a week for a few pints but since the smoking ban I have stayed at home and as a result of this my local pub has been forced to close.

The bar staff made redundant the brewery went bang the banks were owed so much by the brewery they went t!ts up that bank owed money to another bank and they went down as well after that it was like a snowball rolling down a hill completely out of control.

I would like to apologise to the entire world its all my fault.

P.s. stop blaming Gordon etc its my fault.

you are being childishly facetious but there is a lot of truth in what you say however.

Your nutshell is quite similar to what has happened to a lot of pubs, restaurants and brewery chains.

Childishly facetious is what i do best.

I do smoke and do think the ban has affected a lot of pubs etc.

Another thing the government got wrong to add to a long list.

Choice- if you want a non smoking pub go to one.

if you want to smoke in a pub go to one that allows smoking.

Surely that would have been better than a government ramming its views up your @ss with a bargepole.

Ah it's ok, matbe. I cancel you out cos I go out more now that I don't have to come home stinking of smoke.

That said, I think I'll give up my job and stay at home on the dole. It's because they won't let me smoke while I work. Yup, gonna give up my well paid job for JSA and a few ciggies.

Eh - who cares? walk along the street like everyone else. If that's you're excuse for not going for a job then I hope hope they cut all your benefits!

Pubs yes, resteraunts? No the food is job crap

They could all retrain in the NHS - their effect has been to increase demand for healthcare to treat all smoking related illnesses.

    4) People are feeling more depressed now and thereofre wanting to smoke now which is not allowed now so it reinforces the whole vicios circle again.

Oh dear what a hard life had by all?

By the way, I am a smoker and one who thinks pubs are much much better smoke free.
