i was in same postition 2 years ago and now i am almost in control.:rotfl:
I don't stick to my plan rigidly but if i miss one of the daily jobs then it definately gets priority the next day... that way nothing gets too bad.
my aim is to have weekends with only about 2-3 hours the whole weekend doing housework etc.

I am lucky - my husband sees the list on the worktop in the kitchen and will do things too.... he didn't at first but he has sort of picked the jobs he prefers to do so I just get on with the others.
I found that the best way to get him involved was to offer him a choice - do you want to put kids to bed or make packed lunches? or while i go food shopping will you strip the beds? etc.....

by the way - we pack lunches for 2 days at a time to give us a "night off". and some of the quick daily jobs (fold laundry , pack lunches etc)get done during the adverts!
anyway - here is my routine.... it took a while to evolve - i found that if I consistently failed to do a job - it was on the wrong day or at the wrong time -- by moving it - it seemed to get done. Hope this might give you ideas.
every day (before work)- 5 mins - make beds / swish & wipe bathroom
soon as come home - 10 - mins put washer on / clear hall & stair / see to mail/calendar/ Plan meal tomorrow (do a bit of prep if possible while doing tonights meal).
after tea - 30 mins - kids homework / pack lunches / empty washer - dry or hang on airer / tidy family room
before bed 15 mins tidy living room / check kitchen is clean and tidy / put away laundry
extra jobs at weekend clean living & family room / clean bathroom / ironing
extra jobs to squeese in during week Week 1 = strip our bed / clean bedrooms / stairs Week 2 = kids beds / dining / hall
