multi purpose compost 49p!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a bag of the 49p Poundstretcher compost yesterday - it seems OK, but has lots of large twigs/small bits of wood in and a few shards of glass! I almost cut myself sprinkling it into my seed trays.
Is this normal? It's the first time I've grown anything from seed - I normally just pour it into the pots so I don't know if I'd notice bits of wood and glass. I know it won't harm the plants, but it might harm me!
As Peter and A Badger say, you get what you pay for, but no, you shouldn't get glass and I'd complain.
Basically, if you are not prepared to put extra sand, grit & soil into an off-the- shelf compost you won't get the best growing medium. I add slow release granules too.
As I realise this is a money saving site, I'd add that I recycle all my compost and have done for years, so although I put in a lot money-wise, I get a lot back too. Obviously there's more to it than that, but I'm not up for writing an essay!0
