Solid Wall Insulation

Before I start, I have searched and nothing came up on this subject.
There is lots about Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation, but I can find nothing about solid walls.
I'm searching the web & have sent off some exploratory emails but thought I would ask in here.
Has anyone had this done, and was it worthwhile?
Does anyone know if any grants are available for solid wall insulation?
Cheers!

I've been looking into this and couldn't find anything so I'd be interested aswell if anybody could shed any light onto the subject.0

what do you mean by solid wall???????
the only way you could insulate an existing solid wall is by making your rooms smaller by having the insulation fixed to your inside walls and then replasterboarded and skimed0 -
ummm thinking about it there is a render product on the market that acts as an insulator.......i'll look into it0

Walls which don't have a cavity.
You can have them insulated internally or externally, although planning permission may be needed for the external.0 -

Many thanks for that.
It sounds very much like something my grandparents used to use and which I always thought was called Cortina (?) but I'm sure it must have been something like Coatina? Anyway, it was like a thin polystyrene.0 -
We also have solid walls in the older part of our house and cavity walls in the extension. We have just had the cavity walls insulated under a grant but unfortunately there are no grants available for solid walls. I think the two options have already been covered, but with solid walls you can either dry line – fix two inch thick battens to the inside walls, fill created void with insulation and close in with plasterboard – or have an insulated layer applied to the outside – commonly disguised with render. We are waiting to see how much benefit the cavity wall insulation makes – hopefully reducing our gas bill! – and the new attic insulation above the solid walls, prior to considering dry lining.I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0

Thanks - it was the grant situation I was really after & I find this morning that my own research has been drawing blanks.
I'm not keen to 'modernise' my inner walls by slapping plasterboard on and the external option is prohibitively expensive.0 -
More effective and easier than dry lining (with battens, mineral wool, vapour barrier and plasterboard) is to use foam-backed plasterboard, which has in integrated vapour barrier and a backing suitable for sticking to the wall. I have used both methods in my house. Foam-backed plasterboard is expensive but its insulation is approx. twice as effective as mineral wool or polystyrene for a given thickness, i.e. loss of room volume, and it is also much easier to apply. It has tapered edges so the whole surface does not need to be skimmed to provide a good finish.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

gromituk, did you hack the old plaster off and then apply the thermal board or did you put it on top of existing plaster ?0
