We still like to go out to our local on a Friday & Saturday night. Often we will spend £15 - £20 on a Chinese or Indian take-away on the way home.

If you don't want to cook, i recommend the Morrison's £10.99 Indian Meal for 4 (more suited to 2-3 people though IMO ;)).

    You get 3 Chicken Curries (Masala, Korma & Jalfrezi), 1 Vegetable Curry, 1 Med-Lrg portion Pilau Rice, 1 Med-Lrg Portion Tri coloured Rice, 4 Onion Bhaji's, 4 Spinach Pakora's, 4 Vegetable Samosa's & 4 Naan Breads (2 plain, 2 Coriander).

You just bung everything in the oven for about 30 mins & it tastes really nice! Puts my local Indian Take-away to shame.:o

M&S do some crackingly good curry sauces in jars ...usually £1.69, but most months they reduce them to 84p per jar for a week or so. They're as good as anything you can make. I do a fast curry using a jar of the above with left over chicken or some prawns, a pepper and sliced onions.

Having said that the Pataks curry pastes are excellent as well and yup, I do make curry from scratch. Just depends on what ingredienat I have and the time availible. I have a 20+ year old Madhur Jaffrey Indian Cookery book that's spttered with cooking stains on every page.

  • Being boring as ever, might I suggest you make the ruby before you go out for the night, then nuke it when you return?

    I've a few friends who've scared themselves drink-cooking!

Our local Asda stocks a range of 'Welsh' curries made a company from Aberdare. The range is made up of Lamb and Leek, Black Beef Curry, Hot Chicken, Mild Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Black Beef and Hot Chicken ones are particularly nice. They normally sell at just over £2 each but are currently two for £3 which I think is part of a St. David's Day promotion. I'm not sure if these are sold outside of Wales but check the chiller section and if you see any then give them a go, you won't regret it.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk
  • Had a spar 99p chicken curry last night. Was quite nice, rice was a bit dry though

  • I enjoy a very good curry and make my own from scratch.

I am very surprised at comments on this thread where people state they have got this or that for 15p!

I appreciate that this is a money saving thread but unless this is a genuine bargain, any curry sauce that normally retails at 15p is just going to ruin anything it is added to?

I am first in the queue for a bargain but not at expense of taste.

Am I alone in this view?
