nuttyrockeress would it be cheeky to ask if you could send those recipes to me? and if anyone has one for either shami kebabs with the sauce they serve with them and tarka dahl that would be fantastic. We love indian but find it increasingly hard to afford it.

    Thanks steve

There's a newfangled invention used by people with an internet connection, called "Google"...that may be the way forward (could even catch on soon?)

This is an advice forum and asking somebody for a tried and tested recipe can often be better than trying every recipe Google throws up.

Also Google requires information to Google. How would it get that without people writing things ?

I lost my job this xmas, possibly won't get another at 52. So have been looking at ways at cutting back on expenditure.

We still like to go out to our local on a Friday & Saturday night. Often we will spend £15 - £20 on a Chinese or Indian take-away on the way home.

This week at Sainsburys we saw O/B 440g curry sauce at £0.15p per jar. O/B 250g prawns for £1.99 and 1Kg O/B Basmati Rice for £1.69.

For much less than a fiver, just had a feast. Surprisingly nice, filling and satisfying. Also easy and quick to prepare, chicken tomorrow, bye-bye take-aways.

sorry to hear about your job situation.

Bongedone has given you a link to a specific thread on the OldStyle board, I'd suggest you read some more of the posts on there for great meal planning tips, recipes and even advice on cheap cleaning products.

If u go to most asian shops, u will find packets which contain the spices u will need for the recipes u want. it will then give u the recipe on the back. once you have made these, and read the ingredients, its easy to make your own. u can get the various curry ones, fish, chicken kebabs etc... Brand that i use is called Laziza. Found a link on ebay, but u can purchase them for much less than that!

  • I'll post some recipies tomorrow for you.

So long as you have cumin and corriander you can make various different versions
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice
  • I had a craving for a chicken masala and whilst doing my food shopping at Asda, they were selling 2 portions of marinaded chicken AND the masala sauce for £2. I already had the rice and naan at home. So £2 for a stay at home takeaway. Good luck with your jobhunting Englishman - it's difficult for all us unemployed.
