You can find spaghetti carbonara recipes here and here

  • you can use any sauce you like, think of it as a kebab, my hubby thinks they are dry on their own but i love them without any sauce as you get the flavours of the peppers etc.... yum

  • My boys are 13 & 16 & will eat pretty much anything as long as they arent bombarded with it. They always say 'cool' 'great' no matter what it is as long as its plentiful & tasty and they dont get to see it too often. Steak & chips & possibly roasties could be repeated daily without complaint (but aren't - birthday treats or nannies house only) but anything else is definately more popular if its not too often. It took me a long time to realise this but now my meal planner is on four week (when i stick to it) and there are normally clean plates.
I havnt got them off convenience rubbish completely though as Turkey Burger in Muffins ( known around here as Mc Mummies) are still the most popular thing ican come up with. Ah, well, I tried (and I do always put salad in the McMummies)

patchwork + dora 37 : spaghetti carbonara - do you have the recipe? thanks

I use a jar! I class this meal as a quick make, so basically cook the spaghetti, warm the sauce and then stir into spaghetti.

Feeds 3 hungry children very quickly!

We originally tried Lloyd Grossmans but was quite expensive (£1.30?), however last week I bought a jar in Aldi for approx 67p and they preferred this one.

You could cheat and use a tin of Cambells soup (the chicken or the 'chicken and white wine' which I've only been able to buy from Tesco),

I always made my own pasta sause, onions, garlic, herbs, mushrooms & tomatoes and the children liked it until......one day, stuck for time I also cheated and used a tin of Campbells Soup 'Mediteranean Tomato'.........and I got 'mmmmm this is delicious, can we have this again', so much for home cooking!

Having said that for 35p or so, again it is a quick alternative. Cook pasta, drain, heat soup, stir into pasta....thats it!

Veg stew - leek, swede, parsnips and carrots in a presure cooker with 2 veg oxo cubes and a little water. This gives a light stew that is not too stodgy. Can add leftover chicken.

Homemade bolognese - onion, tomatoes (tinned), grated carrot, mushrooms, dried basil, bit of black pepper. I sometimes add tuna, chicken, mince or tvp to ring the changes.

daughter: any fruit, carrots, dried fruits, dried peel, cakes, biscuits, cheese, sausages, sliced meat as long as it is sliced thinly, noodles, plain rice, proper sunday dinner with yorkies and gravy, pies, jelly, custard, crumbles, poppadoms, naan bread, sweetcorn, beetroot (cooked not pickled) prawn crackers, chips (HM) marmalade, soft cheese, salami, lait de poule (chicken milk - milk with an egg and sugar mixed in), smoothies.

Boys: same as daughter, plus prawns, squid, marrow from bones, spare ribs, bolognese, rare steaks, chicken kebabs, any meat on a bone, like legs, wings, odds and ends...lettuce, pickled cabbage, gherkins, pies, stews, cooked pineapple, smoked salmon but not fresh salmon! HM soup, olives, sushi, 'grown ups' food when we are out, in fact my boys are a dream they will try almost anything. Youngest ds liked tripe when we were in Spain last year. Little ds likes omelette but not eggs!
Found something they ALL like, had it last night to resounding success - cheesy mashed potato with garam masala added to it. They would have eaten twice as much!

  • My 2 kids love my Chicken and Broccoli bake. Recipe HERE

It's so easy to make and can be made up to a day in advance. You can vary the soups in the sauce and the vegetables. I have made it with mixed veg, sweetcorn & peas, carrots only. Possibilities are endless.

HM burgers go down a storm too. Ideas and discussion on this HERE

Why not have a look at the recipe thread for more ideas?? If possible get the kids to assist in making the meal, sometimes I find that they will eat it if they have been involved in the making.

Hope this is of some help to you ;)
  • My two children love smoked sausage with pasta cheese and bread/garlic bread

I buy one Smoked Sausage which is sliced and served cold, cook some pasta, toss in butter and put some grated cheese on top, I will then serve crusty bread or garlic bread with it. They love the fact that is has a few different flavours and mixes nicely..

They have friends from school come round for dinner and it has become a hit with them all - very cheap to make and if it just the two of them I can give them it twice in the one week for about £1.75........

Mine likes BBQ (any meat), roast, pizza, southern fried chicken done in the oven, toad in the hole and Chinese sweet and sour balls with fried rice or chips.

He will eat salad in the summer

We have to limit anything fatty as we are trying to limit our fat and the temptation would be too much. He goes out for anything we don't like, being out a lot, it's easier all round.

He hates pasta, bakes, casseroles and couscous.
We do like the above so have it when we are alone.

    He is 18
