what foods do your kids love?

hi, i'm looking for new ideas for meals to feed my stepsons. i thought it might be helpful if fellow oldstylers could post what their kids love for dinner and what meals you make your kids.

i had a look through the index but couldn't find an appropriate thread.

My kids love Shepherds pie, made as per Annabel Carmel book. It involves a layer of mince in gravy, (you can sneak in some veg here, I usually add tinned toms and sometimes puree some courgette and add to mince) then a layer of peas, a layer of mashed carrots, topped with potato with a bit of cheese on top.

They also like tuna pasta, pasta with a white sauce, tuna and sweetcorn added, topped with cheese, browned under the grill.

Most pasta dishes go down well, lasagne is another good one and they also love stew,as long as I keep the veg basic ie, carrot, swede, onion, potato and celery.

My kids also like mild chicken curry, though I admit I buy a sauce for this so not very os.

I bought the Annabel Carmel family meal planner book and that has loads of quick, easy meals in it.

Roast dinners always go down well!!!
DD (7) loves spag bol, made with mince, onion, garlic, chopped smoked bacon, tinned tomatos and grated carrot.
DS(9) loves pasta, made with peas and sweetcorn, double cream and an egg. Sometimes add bacon and/or chicken, and sometimes add maozzeralla cheese (the only cheese he likes, mega fussy!!!!)

My girls are 11 & 13 so similar in ages although I suppose you are going to have to vary recipes to their likes/dislikes.

I make a pasta sauce with tomatoes/peppers/carrots/onions/herbs and blend it until smooth. Then I either make pizza bases or buy them and let the girls make their own pizza's. My youngest 'who doesnt do peppers & onions' doesnt know she is eating them. She just puts sweetcorn & cheese with hers and thinks she has got what she wants!!

I use the same pasta sauce to go with spaghetti/pasta and they have that with garlic bread & grated cheese. Nice and quick and easy.

They both also like macaroni cheese. Sometimes I add tuna and sweetcorn to this.

Bubble and squeak is one of their favourites (AND MINE 'COS ITS CHEAP!). Just mash and cooked cabbage mashed together and shallow fried. Served with a couple of rashers of bacon.

They love corn on the cob with any meal or by itself.

Couscous! Again, with the pasta sauce mush and some grated cheese.

Cheese pie - mash, grated cheese (fried onion and fresh tomatoes or cooked leeks mixed in for one, just cheese & mash for the other) put in a dish & bake in oven. Serve with broccoli or any other veg. Sometimes a piece of fish or chicken.

I'm a veggie so they dont get much meat from me (can you tell:D )

My husband cooks all the meat pies, chicken curries and stuff when he's not working.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

    It's really easy.

Buy plain cous cous. Put say two cups in a bowl and cover with boiling vegetable stock + another inch. Cover with a plate.

Meanwhile saute some onions, peppers, mushrooms or anything else. By the time they're soft the cous cous should have absorbed all the water. If not just squash it and get rid if the excess. Add the veg and a knob of butter and fluff it through with a fork.

    Very moreish :D

I cheat and buy it the flavoured couscous in packet. You can buy them from any supermarkets in various flavours eg.mushroom, garlic, sun dried tomat etc. You just add boiling water and let it stand for 5 mins, add a knob of butter & stir. I really like it too :D

You can buy plain couscous and cook to you liking but I like the packets.

Couscous is nice with cumberland sausages - so my husband has just said:rotfl:
