Thank you! In addition, would it help if I indicate in my appeal to withdraw my £39K savings from Halifax if they insist to decline my application for a Reward Account?

Nope. The bank don't care about your 39k. Sorry.

Surely they'd pay attention because it is ideal colatoral to offset any debt.... maybe this is why the OP has a 10k o/d which also seems high...

I'd suggest yea, threaten to withdraw the 39k and then watch them reverse decision.

    Absolutely pointless.

Your Halifax savings have already been taken in to account in the overall credit scoring decision. As has the possibility that somebody could have savings one day and spend it all the next. No underwriter responds positively to commercial blackmail threats though.

You could certainly draw their attention to your BM savings which won't have been taken in to account though.

Looking at your original post, you state that you already have 3 current accounts with Halifax, including Easycash. As well as the high overdraft limits at Halifax and A&L, I think this is a key reason for your being rejected a further banking facility.

If your appeal is unsuccessful, it is possibly (not certainly) time to open a Visa Electron account elsewhere, close the Easycash, leave things a week and then re-apply and see if things change. Don't overdo the credit scoring though.

To be more precise: a huge junk of savings is in fact with Bank of Scotland (currently paying 6.5% till August :)) Those BoS accounts are displayed in my online banking with Halifax. So I guess, I can assume that those BoS accounts have also taken into consideration when they declined my application?

Sorry, this is off-topic: which bank, besides Halifax, offers a Visa Electron account?
  • I got the plan, withdraw the 39k from the bank and come and run away with me LOL

Co-op offers a VISA Electron card. The account is called 'Cashminder'.

    Co-op.

Fairly sure Nat West do as well, but wouldn't stake my remaining Lloyds Banking Group Shares on being right! There are posts on this board relating to it though.

Natwest only do Solo/Maestro cards only, not Electron.
