  • OK! Now that I've established its safe to leave on when I'm at work, its time to get stuck in!:j First off, I am NOT a great cook. I would like to make the most basic of basic meals using the slow cooker. Ingrediants I have in the cupboards...not much but would like to make some sort of stew. SO can anyone talk me through this step by step? I have frying steak, potatoes, onions, carrots, fozen peas, chicken wings/legs, bisto. What could I make with that? Don't forget....its like teaching a child to cook, I am very much a ready made kind of girl but would like to change that!!

    Hi kingston,

Basically I brown the meat in a pan, (not everyone does this, but I prefer to as I think it adds colour and flavour to the dish) then add the meat and the veg/potatoes to the slow cooker. Next add any wine/stock etc (less than you would to a normal casserole or stew as the liquid doesn't evaporate and reduce), season and leave for at least six hours. When the dish is ready, check for seasoning, and thicken the juices if necessary.

There are many step by step recipes in this thread:

Or have a browse through the links in this thread to see if you can find something you like:
