aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhhh!!! i cant seem to win at the moment
My mate and his girlfriend are trying to get me to go to a stag party that is coming up, and the wedding as well.
now the stag party is up in london and will be a minimum of £60, the hotel room for the wedding (which is on another day obviosuly lol) is £60 but this will cost £30 because there will be two in the room. Then there is the reception for drinks whcih lets be honest is going to cost another £50 so thats basically £140!!!!
Im saying that im not goiing to go to either of these cos its just too much money but they know im do loads of overtime and keep saying to me that i can afford it (they dont know im in debt they think i dont have any debt)
can some one please help i keep saying to them that im saving for a deposit for a mortgage and dont want to use any of my savings (obviously im paying off me debts) but they really dont take no for an answer
There really good friends of mine and they want me to come out cos they want me to be there, but is it me or ami being really boring and should go out?
please help cos im trying my best not to spend money recklessly....:oSavings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -
Is it their wedding mate or someone elses?
When my mate got married last year we went to Prague for the Stag Do! With that, spending money, the wedding, hotel, present, drinks, it cost me around £1,000!
Was a wicked time though!
Personally mate I would sit down and work out a budget for it. But only go if you want to not because others are pressuring you to!
Also see if you can get a code for a cheap room?0 -
yeah but the thing is SS it could possibly turn out to be more, the Stag do is in Central London and i dont really want to go up there for a couple of hours and then come back again, cos i really dont know how to navigate my way round the centre of London anyway. just feels like they wont take my answer of no ....although i know they mean well and want me to go out with themm i just sometime wish they would take my answer..................Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580

wish i could Emmzi but the wedding is in Essex and i live miles away from there so it would be a stay over jobby. I just cant really justify the expense of all this i really cant, i mean a £140 is a lot of money i could throw at my debts .......Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580

I find being 'on a course of antibiotics' which I can't drink with or I'll vomit helps immeasurabley in avoiding having to drink, which is always the biggest cost on socials for me.
Of course you have to suffer some ribbing about what you need them for
If you can't go - you can't! Send a nice card and ask them over for home cooked dinner before the event?Debt free 4th April 2007.

Basically James you only live once, and you have to pat yourself on the back ONCE in a while........................if you decide to go I will, just this once, let you off the screaming smilies!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:;)Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I agree you do need to let your hair down now and again and if its someone that you care about and would like to share their special day then you should go for it... but as SS says you should set a budget for yourself.
You could just not book a room for the night and just hope you pull? ! It is a wedding after all! :rolleyes:0 -
i went on a hen night in march, it was in central london. we stayed in travelodge and it cost £11 each. can i also suggest a kitty for drinks all put £20 in - we had money left the next day. Obviously it's your decision and there is no point in going if you are going to be worrying about the money you could have paid off your debts.
Also, if your friends don't know you are in debt then they may come to the conclusion that you don't want to go. Weddings are one offs they won't be having another one.Official DFW Nerd Club member no. 0190
