I'm sure that some 1.97 million in this country at least would prefer a boring life.
Sounds like you should get out more often to walk your dogs and experience the real world. :rolleyes:0 -

Why am I a brain dead fool because I don't have the same opinion as you?
There's loads of "We're doomed" threads.
Crisises (?) always bring the best out people0 -
. The hundreds of people in negative equity, debts and losing there jobs plus homes,
wont be seeing a funny side. I wounder if the op would find it funny if someone close to him was facing a bleak future.0 -

It could be argued that a recession is just what we need, as a society, to force a much needed change.
But in reality, I can only see it creating a more protectionist goverment, which will mean lots more intervention from the 'elite' to take even more civil rights away from us (you know we cant protest anymore?!**), and further widening between the rich and poor. The government doesn't even have control over country anymore, the huge multinational companies have them by the balls.
**evidence from some peaceful protests about the israel/palestine conflict at my university (nottingham university) resulted in immediate police action and some completely unnecessary use of violence - which was denied by them.0 -

I think society needs it as well. Throughout history there's been wars, diseases and the plague - we have had nothing. The worse is an economic crisis. I know what I'd prefer
Society / governments / capiatalism / globalisation will all have to change now. We'll have to see if it all turns out better at the end of it all.0
