Is Northern Ireland a laughing stock..

Maybe at bit off track, but what about all these multi fuel burning stoves being installed in smokeless areas, I have one neighbour who has his on all day, I dont know exactly what he is burning, but is smells terrible and the soot covers my car sitting outside, so what is it doing to our health.0

The fact is Sammy Wilson cannot be representative of a department that he does not believe in, endorse or have experience with. It's like putting Hitler in charge of race relations. I'm not saying he is hitler I'm simply saying how inappropriate his placement within the executive is.
But the thing is Peter Robinson KNOWS what he's like and still put him in position. Unless Europe are able to comment and put pressure on him because he is contravenes EU legislation then Peter isn't going to do anything.
On sammy's first day in office he said I think northern ireland should have nuclear energy (we are too small an area to justify the risks in my opinion; that he believes that the causeway should be privatised (at least he backed down there) and that more building in the countryside should be done from an economic point of view (not that clear cut).
Now no-one is saying that cattle or volcanoes aren't responsible for methane, they are. But to say that all the energy we as man are using isn't also impacting is ridiculous. Now what is more likely to be controlled or easily fixed. You can't predict volcanoes, cattle are a necessity but more alternatives will be needed but its obvious if you leave lights you're not using you're adding to unnecessary waste. This is reflected in your bills. This is why its billed. because energy in forms of oil and electric exist. Hence the issue.
Sammy Wilson versus the entire scientific community. I know who my money is on. And for those that agree with him, I really feel sorry for your ignorance.
Climate change doesn't necessarily mean we will have warmer summers in actually means we are more likely to have colder, wetter summers that are prone to flooding. So thriftyminx13 what all areas of work does the DOE encompass and how does Sammy Wilson demonstrate his lack of belief and endorsement in all of these areas of work?
What EU legislation is he contravening? (This should be good! )0 -

I didn't say he demonstrates his lack of belief, i believe he believes what he says. I believe he is wrong. If he doesn't believe in the fundamentals surely that can't be representative of northern ireland's majority opinion. Why be in charge of the environment if you don't believe that what is destroying the environment is man in conjunction with these things? Why represent an area so publicly when you don't believe in climate change. yes, he's in charge of gritting roads and lots of areas within DOE but the environment and its protection should be his mandate.
EU policies on climate change are well documented. When the EU implement a directive we, the people of the EU have to follow it. You've heard of Kyoto and the need to reduce CO2 emissions, haven't you?! Otherwise oh dear!!MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110 -
Yes you did - line one of post #23!thriftyminx13 wrote: »I didn't say he demonstrates his lack of belief, i believe he believes what he says.
Who said so - oh you did so that must be right! :rolleyes:yes, he's in charge of gritting roads and lots of areas within DOE but the environment and its protection should be his mandate.
Yes I have; but you stated in para 2"because he is contravenes EU legislation" and I asked what law he (Sammy) had contravened? You didn't answer my question so I'll answer it for you - none! You obviously have no idea how the Assembly, its Committees or Ministers function. He, on his own, has no power to contravene any EU law.EU policies on climate change are well documented. So please stop making a fool of yourself; a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.0 -

Kyoto is global legislation. legislation is law.
To contravene means to oppose in argument, so he can contravene; you don't need power to contravene. I was simply commenting on the fact that he goes against european legislation. We simply have to reduce CO2 and save energy in all forms as part of the UK legislation on Climate change 2008. If your minister doesn't believe that man creates CO2, as part of climate change, then this contravenes all present science and legislation.
I don't feel the fool, at all! And I'm not an ignorant individual. Maybe I'm failing to clarify all my points but you are nit-picking Once again to contravene means oppose in argument, which he has!!!MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110 -

No such thing as global legislation. All international law has to be ratified at domestic level.
Do you think there is an international Police force??0 -

Get China and the USA to take steps to reduce their emissions and there might be some hope for the future. What this country produces is miniscule(sp) compared to them, so let's get things into perspective folks!
I agree....whats more...in this green age where everyone is encouraged to pursue a "save the planet" mentality....at their own cost....just watch how the "save the planeteers" stop or slow down as the credit crunch bites harder....Its all very well being a tree hugger when you can afford it...and lets be honest, the government expects us to foot the bill....but if faced with warmer summers and melting ice caps....or feed my family and keep a roof over our heads....I know which one I'll be picking....I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0
