Transfer to natwest e-ISA

  • Have finally (hopefully) resolved my Natwest e-isa issues. I opened a Natwest savings account in branch and then on the 14th of May applied on line for the E-Isa with the 3.5% interest rate. My account was finally opened on the 27th of May. When I realised the interest rates had changed I phoned up customer services to check what rate I was eligible for, I recieved a letter stating that as my account was opened on the 27th May, I would be getting the reduced rate. I phoned to query this and was told it made little difference - the rate was variable and all customers regardless of opening date would now be getting the reduced rate. I then phoned the product information line and checked the web-site and was assured that this wasn't the case, it does matter when you opened the account, not only that they said what actually mattered was the date of application - in my case the 14th of May, and would ammend my account to increase interest rate and back date it! I've just recieved a "profuse apology" from the customer services department. I would reccomend anyone in a similar situation to check when they applied (they have records of online applications) what rate they are getting and don't necessarily believe what you are initially told.

A record of my ISA transfer from NS&I to NatWest E ISA

Transfer request form dropped into local branch :--- 19 May 2009
Letter from NS&I confirming transfer to NatWest :--- 5 June 2009
Appeared in NatWest online statement :
    11 June 2009

So after the ridiculously inapprotiate forms which had to be filled in to open the account and to transfer previous ISAs, this transfer seemed to have been reasonably efficient.
  • I called into a branch of natwest to ask them for the details of my account, but they couldn't help me, couldn't access the details of the account for reason (she said it was probably because it was an e-isa). So I phoned them, and am pleased to hear that I'm on the higher rate.

I asked about the transfer of my previous year's ISA money also, since it has been 3 weeks since I handed in the form, and nothing has happened yet. She said that HSBC have been a problem with slow transfers so I could have a bit of a wait yet... She said that I shouldn't expect any interest for the time in which my money is in limbo between banks, so hopefully this isn't very long once the money disappears from my HSBC account.

What number did you use to contact them?

very hit and miss that one. It's a sales number so not everyone you get through to will know how to check interest on an existing account. I would have though :D

It didn't seem like the best number to me either it's down as general product information but I've always got through to someone pretty quickly and they have always transfered me to the right department straight away as soon as I mention it's about a new ISA.

If you have a better number for isacream_man to call you could post it :)

I suggest you register that number with www.saynoto0870.com as I don't think they have a (verified) freephone number for Natwest. I had to dial a national number, using up some of my monthly call allowance, which is why I chose the local branch option last time I had a query.

I will add my experience to this which is quite similar as I posted the transfer request at the end of May. First week of June I got letters from two existing ISA providers that they received the request to transfer and the next week the money was in my natwest account.

My Natwest Isa was completed today successfully from Nationwide to Natwest: two months exactly. All went OK but the application process was very bad leading to many phone calls.
