I went back to the poorly computer and Hardware Interrupts had suddenly increased jumping between 30% and 50% CPU usage Hijack was still open so I managed to run a scan and save the log file. (Difficult to do as mouse very jerky) The only difference from the one above was this
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
    C:\Backup Docs\procexp.exe
I'm now running process explorer which is why I can read the CPU usage

Is there any program that displays what is generating the interrupt requests?

I'm sure it's safe comes from here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals
I ran it from a directory called Backup Docs

Anyway computer now seems to have completely frozen again. I think these interrupts just take over all the CPU usage and then no more computer
  • Have you checked the Event Logs for anything that would indicate a hardware issue?

Nothing looks like a hardware fail issue - don't understand this one though
'The drive has not been shown to support digital audio playback' source redbook.

Since there seems??? to be no problem in safe mode I'm guessing that the problem lies either with an actual bit of hardware or a driver that's not uesd in safe mode but is normally (safe mode with networking seems fine)

Have you tried going to WINDOWS UPDATE and custom installing all hardware updates?

Worth a try - last time I tried I was in safe mode and it wouldn't play. After I did the repair XP I thought I had updated everything but I may have forgotten hardware updates. I'll try and boot it into normal mode and have a go.
  • Download Belarc Advisor and find out exactly what hardware you have installed, then go to the manufacturers website to download and install the latest versions..

Got to windows update no hardware updates 3 optional software updates mouse started to go jerky - got out closed IE computer froze. Will try Belarc Advisor (does it work fully in safe mode) I've tried PC Wizard for the same purpose but I think some of the stuff in the computer is so old it couldn't recognise it.
