I would have been surprised if we weren't tbh, we are in our 50's, OH will be at the peak of his earnings potential now, and is in a good job, we have had the same mortgage for over 16 years, never mewed, hewed or whatever. Kids grow up and become less of a drain on the finances.
So your income goes up and your expenses become less - it happens and eventually will happen to everyone.0 -
Even though I am a self-confessed Mortgage Free Wannabe #157, I can't imagine living on such a tight budget.
We still like to eat out now and again, holiday 2/3 times a year and I change my car when it gets to MOT time, but we still overpay the mortgage by £745 a month.
If we cut out all the nice things along the way to being mortgage free, we would be mortgage free sooner, but I doubt we would be as happy as we are now.
I'd stop the overpayments or reduce them first before going without the above.
Why did the OP start this thread and what did expect from the responses?
It's clear no-one compares to him. Well done for him, now he can sleep peacefully, while we get on with living our lives.0 -
well woopy doo to you OP! sorry but get a life, you wanna save more sell both the cars and get rid of heating lighting and stop eating, but you already knew that didn't you. Wanna show off then find something good to show off about, not the fac tthat you have no life!
Sorry not like me to get like that, I shall go back to being more on the fence!!!Riding out the receession.........0 -

Now I expect to get 40-50% of that and be damned grateful for ANY job.0 -

Mine was 1990-92!
Right now, I would be grateful for any job paying any kind of money. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Uber Frugals ? Wasn't that a record by ABBA ?0

If it is the simple things in life that you want and the rest of us are just greedy why not donate your saving's to the red cross.
I live a very simple life living on a boat ,so my outgoing are a lot less than yours but I have a happy full life, just remember you are a long time dead and a balance between saving and living a good life is important .My mother was a saver much like you no treats, no haircuts ,and no holidays but she died in her early 50's and now my father is having a great time with his new wife and is living the life my mother missed out on .0
