I do buy presents for people, I prefer not receive them, and for the past few years have asked for a card. If anyone wants to offer a present, I usually ask them to donate to the International Red Cross.

About the only charity I see doing genuine, good work whilst I am away, and an organization that doesnt have its execs on the scam making a fortune out of peoples donations.

My wife and I value the time we have together.

As for my above comments; I couldnt give a !!!! if they are patronizing comments; people need to wake up to the face the fact they get their !!!! wiped by the state and are very lucky. I think its a situation that will change significantly over the medium term, it has to...

Perhaps then we can get back to living as a community and helping each other out instead of selfish "want want want" and only caring what happens to you and your close family.

Complete trot. Consumerism is a sickness in my mind, a weak trait in individual personalities. Having been to some of the most medieval countries on this planet, you get to appreciate what is important in life. And its not buying/receiving loads of presents. Its appreciating what you have got, who you have around you. Its really sad that people associate spending more money than they have as living.

Try seeing a family destroyed by war and you wake up pretty damn quickly into realizing what really is important in life. I will give you a clue. Its not the latest BMW or mobile phone. Having watched a father grieve his dying daughter in the back of an aircraft hammers that home.

Get over yourself, I was having a joke, christ what is it with people on here today. I'm sure you've seen a lot being in the forces, but there are plenty of folk in civvy street who've had just as harder a time. I've had plenty of points rammed home in my time too, some just as harsh as anything you might have dealt with, as is the case with others on here I'm sure. Doesn't stop me wanting to spend a few quid on my baby at Christmas.

You people disgust me. Spending money on people you love to give them a bit of joy, something must be seriously wrong with you all. The sooner you're all cured of this illness and start hoarding all your cash away in bank accounts where it can't do any good to anyone (except bankers), the sooner the world will be a better place..

PN, you forgot your sofa. Thats an asset. I know it is subject to wear and tear but it would still have a value.

And you haven't included anything for wine gums.

Fiar enough. But you basically implied that if people hadn't seen a family die then they were somehow corporate, consumeristic monsters who fling money at pointless cr*p for a hobby. Which is pretty patronising. And obviously not true.

to you sir.....i tip my hat..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
