Welcome Katrina and Savingsgirl and good Luck :hello:
Blue_Monkey and Katrina. How about slimmng world. They have an online support group, and you dont have to be a member to sign up for it. Each week someone (often myself) posts the weekly password for the site and you can follow it that way. There is also another thread on this forum called slimming world password required and the next 6-8 weeks passwords are posted on there (this weeks is Valentine :happyhear ). That forum is HERE
HOw about visiting your local market for some fruit and veg - its often cheaper this way. Slimming world follows the principle of green and original days - on green pasta/rice/potatoes/eggs and plenty of other foods are "free". There are loads of relatively inexpensive things you can rustle up with these ingredients - mashed potato+beans, omelette, egg fried rice with veg, pasta with sauce (tin tomatoes)
The list in endless. I joined SW 5 weeks ago and have found it to be easy enough to follow and my weekly food bill if anything has gone done - with some careful weekly meal planning.
Good luck whatever you decide - there are others on here who follow WW and they will be able to fill you in on the basics of it.Set yourself mini targets that are easily achievable to stay motivated.
Feel free to ask any questions and Happy Slimming! :grinheart0 -
blue_monkey wrote:Hi again, thanks for your messages of support. I'll get some decent scales at the weekend and will make a fresh start. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should b eating. We are on a really strict budget (hence finding you guys) so I cannot afford all the faddy stuff you can usually buy - especially the Atkins stuff - but I really want to put what I can into this. I thought maybe I would do Low carb for a week, low fat for a week, would this work do you think? I cannot join WW or SW as I really cannot justify the expense right now (business not going anywhere fast and hubby about to lose his job) but it is knowing what I can eat when I can't eat a lot of the stuff that helps you keep trim. I went shopping at the weekend and things I know I would like - baby corn for example - is about £1.50 for a small packet. It is so expensive isn't it. or is it just me that thinks this? I am trying to get all of the low fat stuff for now. When I was breast feeing the weight fell off - not so this time though.
I will make sure I get those scales though and start as I mean to go on. I can't go anywhere far from home for the time hubby is in hospital (3 weeks) incase I get stuck and cannot get daughter back from school so what more of an excuse for a good walk do I have?
Heres to the way forward, thanks so much. xx
I didnt lose weight when I breastfed either!!
Bluemonkey do you have a friend who has done ww before. All you need is to borrow their points finder and or/ books that tell you how many points are in food. If you pm your weight and height an tell you how many points a day you need to eat. I'm not paying for a meeting just writing everything down and weighing myself at the local chemist (50p) once a week.
From what I've read here you'll get just as much if not more support than you'll get from a meeting here.
Thanks for the welcome folks - I'm proper determined now - off to change my sig!!

Hi Girls
It's taken me two weeks to get up the courage to post here. I was 19 stone height 5"7 BMI 41. I am down to 18.4. My healthy weight would be 11 stone. As you can see I have a mountain to lose. I have a bad foot condition which makes walking painful and I have a bad back too which makes exercise at the gym difficult too. However I have stopped working for a while (as long as we can get by) and I am going to concentrate on losing this weight which represnts to me a lot of hurt and bad memories. I have bought a no impact strider from Argos about 100 pounds which I should be able to use without hurting my foot I hope, and I am going to do those 10,000 steps a day. I've signed up at my surgery to see the nurse once a fortnight. I am in fear of losing my life as I am at extreamly high risk. I need some friends and support so I am hoping that you girls and I will be that for each other. I am roughly following slimming world plan as I used to go there but can't afford to now. I have the 2004 receipe books/food directory which are probably all out of date now re syn values - do you know when the new directory is due out? If I register online and pay the joining fee how do I continue to use the site or is it better to join a class and then not go and lift the password from this site each week?? What do you girls find best?
I am going to Polzeath Cornwall in August on an extended family holiday(sister in laws etc) and they are all size 8/10, last year there was no one there that I knew so I went as a size 26 in a mans wetsuit and really enjoyed body boarding etc but this year I am dreading it and it will be a miserable time for me unless I lose the weight as I just will not go in the sea with my sisters there.
Thanks for reading this, it will help motivate me.0 -
Hi Cotsvale.
Welldone for posting on here - you've made the first big step. And you've already lost weight! You're doing the right thing by giving yourself something to aim for. But I wouldn't think "my goal is to lose all that weight and if I don't I'm a failure". Think "my first goal is to lose 1/2 stone." Focus on that, then set yourself lots on min-goals along the way so you don't get overwhelmed and lose heart.
I can't help you on SW as I have no idea, but you've come to the right place. Whenever you need a bit of support please post!!!
Come on girl! You can do it!!!!!New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
Hullo all,
I have to apologise immediately in case i ask for imformation that has already been posted but there are a lot of pages to this post and it's taking me a while to get through them (i will get there in the end though!).
I've been to SW and Rosemary Conley classes in the past and prefer the SW diet but the RC classes (for the excercise and location mostly) and I want to start at classes again using the RC classes and SW diet (i still have the books plus the fact people are kindly posting the SW online passwords is helping me keep up to date).
Anyway I'll get to the point...has anyone seen any free membership/class vouchers for RC recently as i'm starting up again next week?
Also any opinions on combining the diets like this would be gratefully recieved (is it a totally awful idea?).
Ta very much slim people.0 -
Hi Everyone, I'm new to this and could do with losing about 16lbs, though at moment haven't the time to attend classes, have done sw and got all the books and stuff. You've all inspired me to give it ago, without atttending the class. So going to try stick to it I'm hope, as I'm usless at sticking to a diet on my own need the motivation that a class gives you, though reading this thread should help boost my motivation. I want to loss the weighht for my graduation in summer but even having a goal is not motivationg me. I'm just so tired all the time from work, uni and looking after the kids that I never make time to prepare myself a proper meal or if I do its always in the form of loads of stoggy comfort food.
Though have decided to start on monday after wkend shop, will let you know how I get on.
Hi Costvalue think what Alfietinker said is true split your weight lose into more manageable goals and reward your self when you reach them, doesn't have to be anything big. Moine use to be sin free chips dry fried egg and beans, as I found that the red days worked better for me so as a treat I'd have a green day.GC: £400/ £00 -
welcome to all new slimmers and good luck
Start off with small targets to boost you along.
Cotsvale - if you register online for SW(free) you can check the syn value of anything online. Y0u probably won't need to rejoin a class. the principles are still the same.
Good Luck one and All!0 -
Hi I have just got the paul mckenner book has any one had a go yet0
-
ellawood, there were a few people on here a while back who swore by it.
to everyone.
With the friendship and support of this board, we can do ANYTHING. Keep focused, aim for small targets in staed of the big one at the end and you will succeed.
Losing weight at a slow pace is far better (and more likely to stay off) than a crash diet.
Good luck all you new "lose weight" membersI haven't got one!0
