I agree, it really doesn't take much effort to thank the person who put the effort in in the first place in finding and posting the comp.

I know the search does play up for a few people but I found that if it's a really hard one to find, searching individual elements of the prize one by one usually finds it (I'm remembering the pan/chutney set here when I only found it by searching the meat forks that were included!lol)

Thank you to all who post on the comps/freebies forums

  • I always thank an op when I enter one of their competitions and then post again when I win (only won once)
Aside from comps, I lurk around and if I agree with someones post or find it helpful, I will thank them.
    Manners do not cost anything
  • Hi, I also agree with thanking etiquette, Been comping for about a month now (no luck so far!) and always try to thank the people who post the comps... HOWEVER, sometimes my thanks button just does not work (I think someone else mentioned this above) no matter how many times I press it, so perhaps other peeps are having the same problem...

I would always try to seek out the OP and thank personally if I ever actually do win anything though!

Yes i agree I have been trying to find the poster for an hour now and have finally found them and thanked them.

I also agree with this thread. As doodygirl has said, I too have searched for a LONG time to find the OP so as I can say thanks in my post.
Let's remember the only reason we won was because the OP posted it on this forum.

And also when it comes to comps people win and are not posted on here, I think a lot of people could be scared of posting due to all the replies saying 'this has already been posted' I know I was worried about posting the Times cinema tickets thing in Grabbit now (2187 views, 10 thanks)

    That's what I'm terrified of :o

'It's already here................I've posted this already..............'

Sometimes things should be said in a nice way, particularly when it's someone who's new as a 'already on here' seems really curt at times. Imagine being on your 3rd or 4th post and wanting to join in and do other people a favour by posting a comp (and let's face it, minimise your own chances of winning to give others a fair go) and getting a curt one liner? Not very nice even if it's meant in a nice way. It's that whole 'can't see the smile behind the text' problem with emails.

Thanks to everyone who does post their comps on here! :D You're braver than me!

I've got to admit I've forgotten to thank before - I promise it was only due to being so excited to have won! I hate it when i accidnetly do things that make me feel rude!

Also I've only just discovered the thanks button, dispite being on here for a good few months! Again, quite embarresed about that, I'm on a few forums and I've never seen anything like that before - I'll be putting it to good use from now on!

A big thanks to all who post comps, especially to the few people who seem to post about 90% of the comps between them! YOu knwo who you are! I do try to post comps when I find them, but I always seem to get beaten to it!!

People need to alert others to duped posts so they are not disqualified, we all get dupes, take it on the chin and tighten up ur searching, its not malicious in any way when a dupe is pointed out its purely to stop the disqulifications xxx
it could take ages to post a comp and to be told its a dupe hurts ur pride, but it shouldn't put u off we all start somewhere, hence Velvet glove spent months compiling her Comping guide so people had a start point and it contains a brill FAQ section xxxx

  • Absolutely, Toniq, but it's the way it's said and pointed out to people that sometimes comes across as really curt and a bit off-putting. I mean, sometimes you get nothing more than 'already posted' when someone has gone to a deal of effort to try and do something nice for all of us.

In all fairness, most comps I come across are already on here so there's no point in me trying to post things, but I feel sorry for those who have tried and people are quite off with them. I realise the reasons for duplicates needing to be pointed out, but it's sooooo much nicer to at least include a 'thanks' in there when someone tries to contribute and they don't always get that.

  • Good thread :)

I always press the thanks button on quite a few occasions ive not entered the comp but still press 'thanks'

My 2nd win this yr was a book about motorbikes posted by RBC and i didnt thank on the original comp, god knows why but i felt really bad about not thanking :(
