Deni, did either you or the other person ever actually see the money? First hand I mean not just the CCTV? Has your Boss been suspended? Surely if she left the money lying around to be lost/stolen she should be the one in the frame.

You don't have to wait for him to get the police involved, you can go yourself. If he knows that his accusations are **** then I'm pretty sure there are offences he could be charged with. I think the police would probably demand the tape, which might be a good idea before he 'accidentally' wipes it...

I agree with the others who say you must act now yourself. Dont just wait to see what will happen. It sounds very much like they think you are an easy target.

  • Okay well I used to work in a Subway and this happened, a lot.

    1. Don't go to the meeting alone, take someone impartial in the company or someone who works there that you trust
    2. Ring the manager and say you are unhappy the meeting is taking place on a Sunday and you want to seek legal advice before doing it
    3. Write down EVERYTHING that you can remember that day, afterwards and from your knowledge cash handling procedures

As for your boss/manager. I'm presuming the meeting is with the boss not the manager? The manager or team leader on shift at the time is responsible for cash. CCTV should be above the till to see any money taken in and taken out.

This footage can be changed, my manger was able to delete bits of it so I'm sure it's possible.

So to sum it up, postpone, write down everything and anything that could be relevant and seek advice.

Subway franchises are SO badly run, and I knew that as a 16 year old. Not a fun place to work if the owner/managers are complete idiots.

    Call the police yourself NOW.
Take a mate to the meeting
You email Head office NOW, and make a record of what the manager is saying to you.

Ask who put and why the £2k was under a desk in the first place, does the shop not have a safe?

Think you're being made a scapegoat. Sounds very fishy to me. Get yourself some help ASAP. Good luck & try to keep calm.

    Just to say ..
I would ask politely to delay the meeting until you have sought advice.

I would also ask for confirmation of any suspensions to be written not just verbal.

Today and tomorrow you will struggle to find people in the office. So relax until Monday.
I would send an email off to head office briefly describing the allegations and what has been said by your line manager as there may be procedures they have in place already. But in the least I am sure they will be interested in what is happening and the way it is being handled.
I would be inclined to think the manger is in more of a panic than you and is not making very good decisions at the moment ..You should not suffer for this so protect yourself ..Just don't take it to personally ..
  • This sounds so fishy to me.
It's awful to be accused of something you haven't done.
I was in a similar situation once. Only for £20 but the manager of Grab-a-Bite sucked me even though I suspected it was her nine years old boy who was playing with the cash machine that day.

Anyway, isn't it the manager's responsibility to look after days takings at the end of the day? Why leave it under the desk? Unless that is the *normal* procedures!? I'd think that no retail shop will leave such large sum unless they have their own safe or something.

Anyway, why finger is pointed at you and not manager? The manager is in this as much as you may be. Just because you were around the desk doesn't mean you've taken it. The manager could have taken the money, forgotten it and now covering. If I were you, I would go to police and talk to them.
