Hi, phone your local county Police switchboard, there should be a local number in the phone book, or go into your local police station.

I've contacted the police in the past, my first dealings with them, when I suspected someone had used my identity to obtain mail order goods. They got an officer out to speak to me at home, and then suggested I pop into the station next day, so they could look into it.

    Good luck.

  • I know the Subway you are talking about (I audit it sometimes),

Can't offer much advice except to say don't let them bully you make sure you are represented, It smells very fishy, could the manager have taken the money and now be using employees as a scapegoat. I think you need to get representation quickly as the have made accusations.

    Best of luck.

  • Dont know if this helps but I several years ago whilst at college, I was accused of taking money from another students bag. No one had ever seen the money in the first place and I can't quite imagine why he was carrying (apparently!) a few thousand pounds around in a plastic bag anyway.

No cctv at that time and his case was based merely on the fact I'd been seen around the desk where his stuff was, looking through his folder on the desk plus we didn't really get on !

I got hauled to the principals office, spent a few days in tears and very angry with all those taking his side. Police never got involved in the end - probably had something to do with me going citizens advice and said if he didn't drop his allegations it I'd have him for slander

    Hope that helps a bit.

I would make the call and take it from there - don't let them bully you.

Did you actually ever see the money before it went missing? How do you know it was ever there at all?

As for the Police I would pop down to your local station and have a word with the desk Sergeant & just tell them what you know & ask advice.

Remember you have done nothing so there is really nothing to worry about (easier said than done I know) Chin up!
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T

for a start, refuse to accept anything your employer says, if they want to accuse you, dismiss you etc, contact the police...they must have something to hide...perhaps their procedures are at fault....take legal advice...most "first interviews" are free

just read some of your previous posts dated 05/02 ...have you left the job?....sounds like you "walked" as your boss advised you....also, as regards procedures...money wages...your employers business sounds like a complete shambles...although if you have walk....its starting to sound like an admission...or have I read your posts wrong?

no i havent walked i got my wages sorted
    i will get there!

right i wouldnt be going into any meetings without a witness for a start
sounds to me like a total failing in any cash handleing procedures and if anyones at fault its the manager who left the money there(was this common practice?)
personally i would be requesting the police be called if they are so sure on their version of things
i wouldnt be leaving and if they want to sack you then its a whole different ball game

This sounds so fishy to me, why on earth would your boss just leave £2000 under a desk! And procedures certainly aren't being followed properly.

Give ACAS a call first thing on Monday, they can give you advice and you can find your local office here:

Also give USDAW a ring, even if your not a member of the union they should still be able to give you some advice.
