:hello: 'Morning Numpty
Hows things this morning your end?
Have you seen that MSE Martin has added a "what to do if made redundant" guide to this Board?
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/protect/redundancy-help
So - I've just had a quick glance so far and thought "Seems to pretty much cover all angles - must go back and check that it includes the point about only being allowed £6,000 in savings and the DWP will treat you as if you still have any capital over that limit - and that probably includes even if its been used to pay off the mortgage"
Pleased it covers a little point I've been making - ie a link to the TUC website to the page where one can find out what is the appropriate Union to join.:D:T
Anyways....there might be some useful info. on there that you havent already found.....
Take care.
love

Hi Numpty,
quite agree about not using all redundancy pay to clear debts. & should definitely be mentioned that there are benefits to help with housing costs, go on make yourself heard

Looks like I missed the paying debts off bit
- Pay off debts. If you’ve any spare savings, use them to clear outstanding credit cards or loans. Having debts hanging over you during redundancy is a nightmare. The cost of most debts vastly exceeds the interest earned on savings.
However it’s important to ensure you keep access to emergency funds if you need them. If you do decide to pay off debts, but it takes longer than planned to find a new job, you may need this money later on for day to day living. More info in the Should I Repay My Debts guide.

I agree with a lot of the people on this page: being laid off can be a great thing, even if you don't see it straight away.
It gives you time to think about what you really want to do. Sure, it's confusing, but how many times in your career do you get to reassess and re-evaluate?
Onwards - good luck, you won't need it!

Thats true

Hello NM.
Haven't looked on here for awhile.
I am still seeking employment. Have also (after a bit of bullying from SH) signed on and hopefully can back date the claim too.
Going to the JC was something of an experience. Being checked out and whistled out by a fellow job seeker, I was not expecting!!
Guess I need to keep an eye on my bank account to find out when I receive the ££.
The girl who was helping me find a job, soon realised that my CV was pretty good and that I didnt need assistance writing a covering letter. Sweet girl really. I don't envy her job, EVER.
Feeling a bit blue on the job hunt front, no doubt the blue will pass and it will be tinged with a bit of yellow soon. I hope.** Proud to be dealing with my debts **LBM - Jan 2009 _pale_ : £24,802.21 :eek:February 2010 :silenced: : £18,078.47 (not including OD)July 2010= £16,819.34 (not including OD)
