    right, so you've gone back to AVG, correct ??

    log doesn't look too bad, but you really need to go to windows update and get Service Pack 1

    the stuff CCleaner gets shut of are all manner of junk and temp files, all safe stuff....

    I will get the service pack now.
    Another thing though.

    I ran the thing that gets rid of Avast! and it seems it's turned my laptop into windows 2000.

    Odd. It's all fixed as far as I can tell [not used to scanner yet] - I got all my files back and it's saving properly again - it's just apparently windows 2000 style instead of XP like it normally is.
