Any info regarding areas is great, If anyone has any photos you can send to my email....please do !
I think you get a false impression of an area looking at professionally taken photos.

I've been looking at Adelaide and sydney recently. Looking for somewhere near the coast and not far from the city if thats possible. Melbourne looks good as well !

    choices choices !!!!

Disney has now been cancelled for next year

I've got quite a few photo's. Sing out if you want a sticky. None of snakes though ;) Mainly of places in Qld. I've been to Sydney & Melbourne a few times visiting family. I'm not a big fan of city living. It depends on what you like. I"m not far from Brisbane and enjoy the quieter setting but enjoy visiting the city. You would have no trouble I would imagine getting in with you and your DW's qualifications. Qld is hotter in summer but does enjoy a more relaxed lifestlye IMO.

YOu can do your visa yourself but probably would need help in getting it together from someone whose done it before. I would look at the websites mentioned and start from there. Good luck. Remember if you come over here, you gotta barrack for the ozzies in the cricket. :D It says so in your visa.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

I lived in Melbourne for 7 years and had two babies there. We lived around the beach suburbs - St. Kilda, Elwood, Balaclava. One thing no one's said yet is that Australia is a deeply racist society, especially out in the towns. The cities aren't too bad, but if you aren't white, it's something you should be aware of.
I think the big plus points are the climate and the more relaxed attitude. Melbourne is nice. The weather isn't too extreme and it's kind of arty (if you like that kind of thing). People are pretty friendly. I don't think the standard of living is particularly better than here, but you don't have that English pessimistic attitude to affect you all the time. (Yes, we really are a nation of whinging Poms!) I think a lot of people spend a year or so there and think it's fantastic, but when you live there a while you get used to it and life doesn't seem very much different to living at home.

not sure what a sticky is. ..but if its an email with a few photos..then send 'em over :rotfl:
I think we'd be better nearer the city, we've more chance of getting jobs. My heart wants to goto the coast though.
Secretly ......I'm hoping that we're only allowed to go if my OH has to work full time with me as a student....I believe the fishing is quite good out there :rotfl:

    Hi There,

If you are thinking about migrating you need to consult a migration expert who will help you with the mine field of filling in all the forms and telling you what visa you can apply for.

it is quite possible to do all the forms yourself - we did.

But as mentioned elsewhere, you do need to sort out which visa you want to go for - dependent on age, any family already out there, money available, and your employement skills...

    Hi Rob,

    Try these sites
http://www.twains.com.au pros and cons of DIY or migratio agent

http://www.immi.gov.au Imigration department where you can get your forms from if you choose to go down the DIY route.

Just make sure that you are applying for the correct visa as you will have your skills assessed against the visa you apply for and if your in the wrong visa class they will not approve it and you will lose all the money you paid to the DIMIA.

I have further info on timelines and costs if you need it let me know.

    Good Luck :rotfl:

Yes, pretty much so. Lots of flats. As you get further from the city they get nicer (though not if you go the Footscray side!).

Do you need to get a visa if you're going on holiday or just looking around the place with a view to emigrating ??

No you don't need a visa, just your passport. Bring togs, towel & sunscreen. :D Oh and don't forget the mozzie repellant.
