    Hi There,

If you are thinking about migrating you need to consult a migration expert who will help you with the mine field of filling in all the forms and telling you what visa you can apply for. If you are or have a skilled profession or a tradesmen then you stand a better chance of getting accepted. Try the website below Melbourne Victoria is very nice and lots of expats go there. http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au.

If you are serious find a migration agent and they will help you with the forms and tell you what the costs involved will be, average time after application if you are successful is anything from 4 months to 2 years for visa completion. Make sure the migration agent you use is registered with the relevent body that governs migration I have lots of other websites just PM me if you want any more info.

    Good Luck

Are migration experts the same as the online emigration services you find on the net ??
Is it cheaper to do it yourself ??

    Hi Rob,

Yes a migration expert is the same service as the online emigration services. It is a lot cheaper to do it yourself and you can buy DIY Packages to help but it is a complete mine field and you would need to way up the pros and cons your sanity  or paying a little extra and let someone else take the pain and guide you through it. :T

You can apply for an initial assessment with most of them for around £30.00 and they will tell you what catagory you would fall into and if you get enough points to qualify. Take a look at these websites so you can get a feel for a few things
    http://www.realestate.com.au Property prices
http://www.seek.com.au See how much your salary might attract current AUS conversion is about 2.32 but check first.

    Hope this helps :j

    Hi Robowen

Just returned from 2 years living in Oz, (Perth) great experience and adventure, but we missed our family here.

Have you got enough points ? are you considering a Sponsored Visa ? Our advise would be try to obtain your Permanent Residency Visa before you leave the UK.

Any questions - fire away ! - Cheers

I had 2 very close friends move over there3 years ago and visited them both 18 months later.
One moved to Sydney, and wasn't very happy, one close to Perth and really loved it.
The main difference is that the latter really made an effort to go out and meet people, she did move to a small town, and soon had some friends and a social life - the other didn't really do that and when I visited still only had one friend (who she had known before she emigrated).
So - it may be not where you live, but how you live there that will make a difference to successfully moving out there.

I dont know what the weather is like where you are right now, but if you havent experienced the heat out there you really should try and get out for a holiday first. In my opinion, in some places its just about unbearable! I love the changing seasons, so for me I would be looking for somewhere like melbourne where it still gets cold and rains sometimes!

I tried two online questionaires to see if I'm eligable. I entered the first as a general plumber...I needed 120 points and scored 120 points.
I did it again and put engineer as I'm multi-skilled  (general trade not specified), I only needed 75 points to do this and scored 115.

so, it seems I can go through various routes to get a visa of some kind.
The third option might be to go as a student alongside my OH's occupation as a nurse. I'm told I could do a short course on air conditioning or something similar.

My dad is also considering going over at some time. He's currently with his partner who has an aussie passport and a british one too. He says he can get in if he marries his partner, so I suppose I would then have family there. They have been over to aus a couple of times in the last two years

so, how does the ball start moving then
assuming I'm gonna do this myself and save a few quid :money: Where do we start ?

  • Hi,
we lived in Melbourbe for a couple of years under a work sponsered visa. Absoluteley loved it and are considering moving back, although a bit different now we have kids. Its a very metropolitan place and excellent for getting about on the trams. We lived in South Yarra near the town centre, but would probably try and move to St Kilda near the beach.

Were out in Brisbane visiting friends a couple of months back and that is also very nice, better weather in Queensland. Can get very hot in the summer, at least Victoria's climate is on the cooler side.

There is a lot of good advice here and it depends what you are looking for. We loved Melbourne everything about it suited us. Go visit and see what you think. You could try a work sponsered visa and keep things going here - which is what we did. I did get very homesick after a year for family and friends and I did not think I was that sort of person. its a long way from home and at least a 3 day turnaround.

I'm jealous! Good luck with whatever you decide
