Emigrating to Australia

I'm warming to the idea of going out to Australia. OH wants to go. I don't currently know anyone out there, so I'm not sure where to start looking at going. I've had family who emigrated there years ago, they have since come home...and have now passed away.
I don't know any of the areas where the english would goto. I assume there are areas where there is a good population of english people.....although being with the english isn't a priority.
I wanted to ask for your advice on which part of aussieland is good / bad. I think I'll be looking at areas from sydney down to adelaide....south east area
Does anyone know of any good suburbs to start looking at ??

Try http://www.movetooz.org/, i have been a member of the sister site about new zealand as that's where i am going to move to (well if they take me) when i have some money behind me.0

Wow....that's like looking for advice on how to live your life!
Employment...housing...family...social life...health...finance...etc...etc
Not sure money-saving-experts are competent to get into that sort of discussion. Might find you a good airfare, but, other than that...?
I wait other responses with a great deal of interest.0 -
Quite possible - at least 2 MSEers have moved out there recently and I think there are one or two others who post from Oz.0

I think Shaz went there too.
I just need a few opinions on local areas really. We all know which are the bad areas in our own town and cities. I'm trying to find out where is good and where is bad.
Something else bothers me...I havent heard anyone say anything bad about australia. That bothers me. I'm waiting to hear the bad sides , so I can balance things out and make a judgement. No-one has said anything bad yet
It can't all be roses over there

Before you think about moving anywhere you should look at the emigrating forums. Do a google search and you will get a lot of sites, go into them and you will see where to go, how to get there, what it will cost, etc.etc. I am leaving for New Zealand early March and have learnt so much from the people who have done it already I think I am going into it with my eyes open and realise some of the pitfalls.0

I'm hearing things like...sunny climate, outdoor life, 5 bed house with pool if I sell mine to pay for it, quality of life better, lower cost of living, roads deserted etc etc

How about lots of small, insignificant creatures that can, in the worst case, cause you a slow painful death or, if you're lucky, a quick painful death.
Apparently the world's deadliest snakes, spiders, jellyfish and even urchins live in or around Australia.

Rubbish. The deadliest snake would have to be the one eyed trouser snake.Hello Robowen.:wave:I live in Queensland. I would suggest you coming out for a holiday first for a fact finding mission. It's a long way to come & a lot of expense if you hate it. Bridie will tell you more accurately the differences in our lifestyle to the UK as I was born here & been to the Uk only for holidays. It's all *normal* to me. It is different though.
I know a lot of expats do settle in Perth. I wouldn't narrow my search down just to that as you might as well stay put. To really experience & fit into a new country you''ve gotta go outside your little square. Overall it prob has the same problems as any other country. There are some parts that I love, and some I hate. It's by no means a perfect country. If you need any other help of specific questions, Pm me any time. HTHDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

I second that! The reason I will not move to Oz is the spiders... hate the damn things! I spent 2 weeks in Cairns and saw things I hoped I'd never see! Maybe not so many insects in cities (we were a bit out of town and not exactly residential), but even in Sydney you've got funnel-webs and on the gold coast you've got Redbacks... I once spent 3 nights camping in a jungle in Malaysia and saw less nasty insects than I saw in Oz!
If insects don't bother you though, I'm sure it's a wonderful place and I'd move there like a shot. We actually looked quite seriously into it once (I did enjoy my trip there really!) but those damn spiders just keep coming into my mind...0
